I don't think you'll have any worries as long as you stay in the city proper. Definitely avoid Knox county or other areas, unless you're specifically looking for rural/ultra-suburban living. As a gay guy I would direct my searches towards the eastern city - downtown/old city, south waterfront (to be experiencing a revitalization soon), campus neighborhoods (be careful with what you look for here, though), Fourth & Gill (the local gayborhood, just don't expect Philly ) and the like. Or you could look more westerly towards Bearden, which can be a very funky, eclectic area, especially around Bearden Hill & east, to the north of Kingston Pike.

You could also look north from downtown towards the Fountain City area. This corridor (Bearden-Downtown north to FC) is definitely the more progressive part of the city.

I'm going to be moving to the Inskip/Fountain City (headed north of Downtown) area and would be MORE than happy to call you neighbor! The folks on this website also helped me alot with some issues (or what I thought might be issues) regarding my move to Knoxville. Overall, I think they've shown me that people are a bit more progressive than I thought - especially when staying around UT. Good luck with the move & congrats on expecting!

I'm buying a house in Inskip/Fountain City. I told Indychic it would be nice to be neighbors. As fate would have it, we will be!

This neighborhood is very welcoming, too.

I'm with jab. Don't go rural, which is very close to the city. You may get great neighbors, but you may not. Of course, that goes for anywhere, doesn't it? You just don't know what you will get. But I think your odds are better with the neighborhoods that jab mentioned.

I'd like to add the Sequoyah Hills neighborhood, it's between Bearden and downtown. You wouldn't be the only family in the neighborhood and I think you'd be welcomed.

Twin babies?! Next door to me so I can be an Auntie!!! When we lived in Farragut we had a gay male couple kitty corner across from us. There were never any problems for them that I know, or that they expressed to me. There are so many gay males in this city now that I really don't think it is as big a deal as one might think. I agree that I wouldn't go rural. What part of town will you be working in?

Thanks for the replies. My partners employer is located in Louisville and we were hoping to find a newer home with at least 4 bedrooms that is located at a reasonable distance from Louisville. Our home in DC is under contract and we will be traveling down to Knoxville in the next two weeks to go shopping for a home.

Ah, ok. Let me suggest some places closer to Louisville. There are some gorgeous homes in the city of Alcoa and some nice neighborhoods. Or, go into the city of Maryville and buy here. Great commute to Louisville. Congrats on the sale of your DC home!!
