I've also been evaluating the schools in the Knoxville area. As a side note, I found Maryville administration to be extremely friendly and helpful. I also heard that Farragut had pretty good schools.

However, I have been told that in North Knoxville, the school scores have recently been low enough for the state to be prepared to step in... is this true? This thread seems to deflect that, so where is the truth? Are the North Knoxville state scores the same as in Maryville and Farragut or not?
Here's a link to the scores/district report cards so that you can take a look for yourself. TN Department of Education:K-12

Thanks for the info, Smoky.

I checked out that link, but it only gave checks to indicate minimum standards that were two years old, so... I started googling for actual scores to compare.

I found a fabulous site SchoolMatters - Home which listed actual scores by subject. Maryville is certainly among the highest. I have to disagree with those that say they're all the same. Was surprised to see that Farragut scores were higher than Maryville for that year. Teacher/student ratios were higher though.

Thanks again. That was helpful.

Look around the Tennessee.gov site; there is more info on there. The SchoolMatters site is mostly worthless. Garbage in, garbage out. I won't get up on my soap box with that site.

My ranking they would be:

Maryville City
Farragut/Heritage tied; depends on the lifestyle you seek
Blount

Of course, I used to be in the Farragut schools and now pay quite a bit to live in Maryville City to be in those schools. I could have a lot more house in Farragut than Maryville city. A lot of stuff out there is subjective and there are lots of great places for a child to get an education. Good parents go a long way. I also like the Kingsport City Schools in the Tri Cities.

Default BLAH to Williamson County

I suppose it is OK if you like bland suburbia and not knowing any of your neighbors.
The Western portions of Knox County are equally as bleak.

People who listen to all that blather about schools are usually easily-led dopes. A community should be considered as a whole and in those respects Williamson County comes up lacking.

There are 3 pharm reps on my street alone. Not sure about their need for exec. ass't.s, but I would think that bodes well.

Easy commute into Nashville, too, as long as you stay north of Spring Hill.

Good luck!

Default update on Maryville schools

I've been in Maryville a month now and my kids have been attending Maryville Middle and Maryville High School. I was quite impressed at the openhouses. The teachers are so involved and willing to teach... a refreshing change from the schools we came from.

I can say first hand that everything Maryville Schools promised are true. It's so refreshing! Anyone who says all the schools around Knoxville are equal must not have toured the schools, talked with the teachers, and experienced the difference in environment.

I give Maryville A+++ and I'm not complaining about the extra property taxes.

Maryville is not in Knoxville, so I don't understand this post. It's probably obvious, but I don't get it.

I don't recall anyone saying that all of the schools around Knoxville are equal. Who said that?

Maryville is not in Knox County and therefore is not in the same school system as Knoxville. Maryville is its own little school district separate from the rest of Blount County, even separate from neighboring Alcoa.

No one in this forum has ever said that schools in Knoxville and Maryville are equal.

Sorry for the confusion... I was updating on my previous post following a suggestion to check school counts. I had forgotten this posting started out about Knoxville. Forgive me?

Sure! I just thought I was confused, which is my normal state of affairs!
