That is to funny. I am going to show some age here but I remember getting dogs linked together instead of in the package. The dental floss brings back those days, wait a minute let me say I was young then....

You are not the only one who remembers tied-together dogs piled high in the meat case! That's also when the local butcher did the tying. Oh, BTW, he/she probably washed hands without having reminder signs plastered on the walls before doing the linking!!

My grandma had the machine bolted to the counter and stuffed her own sausage into what she called "cat gut". To this day I still think of casings being just that, uck!!
I dont remember anyone having to be told to wash their hands, but I do remember them wiping their hands across the white aprons LOL

Luckily for us these days, as I went directly to Krogers after reading the forum and purchased some Boars Head, (BTW the Cedar Bluff location carries both skinless and casings) they using sheep casings instead of "cat gut."

Oh, wow, painter! And, even the Boar's Head sauerkraut is terrific!!

Don't forget to put some chopped raw onion on top of that kraut and mustard!

They make a wonderful dry Italian salami and kielbasa, too.

Gem You convinced me, I am going to head to the one and only market that sells Boars Head here (1 hr drive). It's time to stock up, Kielbasa w/ kraut, some German potatoe salad, a few brats, alot of the dogs.

Am I missing anything?? Oh something cold to drink! yup dinner at 5
