About a month ago, we had them coming by every day. One guy was really aggressive and gave my neighbor a hard time when she flat-out said, "not interested." After that, we all stopped opening our doors. It lasted about a week. Nobody has been by since.

Just before me and my wife moved back to TX, we had a young female come knock on the door. I answered and she tried to scam me into buying magazines. I told her I don't like magazines and then she asked for a donation. I told her I mail all of my donations directly to corporate headquarters and asked if she would give me the address and I would check into it. She said she didn't know the address and quickly left. Less than 2 weeks later, a rough looking 18-20 year old looking guy got dropped off at the end of the street. My wife told me she saw them being dropped off again. I told her to simply get out of sight and I did too. When the guy rang the doorbell, our American Bulldog went nuts like she always does when she hears a bell ring and I encouraged her to run to the door barking and growling. I watched the window and the guy basically turned around immediately when he heard her. Made me feel good to know that he would remember not to bother our house.

A younger man rang our doorbell today, and I answered it before I remembered the caution about door to door salesmen in Farragut. After about five minutes of talking to him, he told me that his company was selling magazine subscriptions to help single parents, and that's when I remembered the horror stories I had read about people being killed in similar situations in the recent past. I felt bad telling him no, because he seemed like a nice guy trying to make an honest living, but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

Is it possible to call the cops on these guys?
Last fall, I had trouble getting one guy to leave. I ended up say, "No disrespect, but I need you to leave now." And he still stood there. Then, "go.... I'm asking you to go". More long pauses.
I found myself wishing I had a handgun at the ready because I honestly was thinking that this guy was doing more than "raising money"... and realized that I was fairly defenseless.

Nope, groups of four, or more, which indicates that more than one person finds this stuff acceptable.
Chilling.

I know it may sound silly, but what about posting some "Beware of Dog" & "Beware of Gun" signs, even if you don't actually have either.
What killer, thief, or even salesman would want to have to contend with either?

Most door-to-door sales people aren't dangerous in any way, but it's still a nuisance. The neighbor kid came to our door to sell us a Knox News subscription, and I think it was fully legit. I don't want one though, and really, the thing that makes me the most annoyed about this type of thing is that it makes me feel bad to say no.
