Catfish in Melton Lake? Maybe that's why the lake was often least-populated? They did have a small area for swimmers to play in. I don't recall of any beach over there - around the lake was full of grass/weeds.

Yup. I checked to make sure that I wasn't thinking of a different place. I google earthed it. That's the place that has the warnings not to eat the catfish. Personally, I wouldn't swim in any water even remotely close to Oak Ridge, or downstream from there, either.

I think I can guess, but still I'll ask: Why not?

We're looking at a property in that area, so any warnings about the environment there would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Julio

If the words nuclear, atom bomb, radioactive, fusion and multicharged ions don't scare you, go ahead, swim near Oak Ridge.

lol, land o' the three eyed fish!

There are signs all over the waterways around Oak ridge telling people not to get in the water or eat the fish. :-)

That's what I was afraid of. Still, that healthy green glow could come in handy during power outages.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions! So I assume nuclear research is still being conducted in the area or does it just take that long to clear up?

Scratch that. I just took a good look at the link NJDevil posted. Still active research.

Sweet. That said, if there's concern about the safety of the water, is it a safe area to live in or is indirect exposure going to be a concern?

We have a ten month old and are looking to possibly buy in the area, so reasonable warnings are appreciated!

you may want to do a search in this forum for threads about Oak Ridge. Not sure if any will answer your question, but there's been lots of discussions about the town.

Default Clean Lakes

Just wonder if anyone knows of any swimming areas near Maryville - my grandkids loved to swim and can't find anything close by except I think it was called Loudon still don't know the area yet. Sorry about that. Also, I thought you couldn't swim in Tellico unless you lived there. Any info would be appreciated.
