Sevierville, Tennessee
Hey, NJ resident here, looking at a log cabin in Sevierville maybe 5-7 miles from Douglas Lake. This would be part getaway place and part investment.
What do you think about the area? Nice? Economy? Housing prices?
Thanks!

If it is for your pleasure, then there are great prices for cabins, right now. Just don't think that you will be able to rent it out and make money. There is a glut of cabins and many foreclosures.

Thanks, that's what I'm seeing for the most part. This wouldn't be a short term flip or rental just a place to get away from it all and relax. I have friends in NC too.
Any idea how bad the market is?
Keep the comments coming! Thanks!

The market in that area is really saturated. Check out this deal.

Thanks for the website. Looks like a great deal. Might have to hold for a number of years if the market is that bad. Was there general overbuilding?

If you shop around carefully, you can probably find some good deals over there. Like Hiknapster says, it's virtually impossible to cash flow a rental property but if it's for your own private use, it's a nice area to have a place to relax.

There is a really good web site if you do a yahoo search for "gatlinburg realtors". It's a blog by a re/max agent that gives great insight to the Sevierville area real estate market. That should give you a good place to start forming some ideas about what's going on over there.

Appreciate it, I just sent him a note asking if he would like to work with me on finding a good deal. I never go directly to the listing agent!
