Top 3 BBq Joints in Knoxville area
Realizing that there are lots of great local BBq places in Knoxville, I am asking for your top 3 places to go to for some grub. I'm staying in Farragut and would like to sample some great local BBq.

Calhoun's. Local chain and a great microbrewery and wonderful onion rings.
Several of them around. The newest is "Taste of Tennessee" in Turkey Creek.

Famous Dave's is good, but it's not local. It's a national chain that was started in Wisconsin by a guy who grew up in Chicago.
Calhoun's is definitely good, local bbq. There's a bbq place on Middlebrook Pike called M&M, or MM, or something like that, bbq. I've never eaten there but everyone I know loves it.
My personal favorite is F.A.T.S. bbq (don't ask me what F.A.T.S. stands for) located on the corner of Whittle Springs and Washington Pike in North Knoxville. It's fantastic.

Here's the link to my thread asking a similar question: http://www.city-data.com/forum/knoxv...rrounding.html
Famous Dave's is a national chain, make of it what you want.
I tried Smokeys while I was down there a week ago. Not impressed with the meat but the sauces were good.

Honestly, we have an old, ugly smoker and we think that our house has the best bbq. We like our baked beans and slaw the best also. In other words, there is still an opportunity for a new bbq joint to open up and earn our business.

Thanks for the quick response all, I'm heading to Calhouns tonight,I passed it earlier today, I wasn't sure if it was just another place calling itself a great bbq place. Famous Dave's is good, but it isn't local. I'll google FATS for a location.
Cheers

We went to Calhoun's in Turkey Creek for dinner and just got back. It's good; you'll enjoy it.
My favorite appetizer there is the spinach dip. Omgosh......

Oh
I didnt realize Famous Dave's was Natl since we didnt have them in Florida, sorry I recommended them. The only barbecue I love is in Miami and its called Shortys, never have found decent barbecue besides them, I try them all hoping I will, I have been meaning to make it to F.A.T.S so guess I will need to make more of an effort. Gores barbecue on Hiwy 66 is pretty good, he smokes his own but its in Sevierville not Knox.

I know this is too far for you but I recently found the greatest barbecue place in Clinton - Riverview Grill. It's on 61 on the river side of the road. It's pretty informal. They have eat in and take out and their menu is online. I have had both pork barbecue (generous serving) and pork barbecue salad. Next time, I'll try the ribs. So, if you are ever passing through Oak Ridge, maybe heading to Norris, go a little further on the turnpike into Clinton. It's right past the rock slide area on your right.
