This is the time of year when we're getting lots of good local produce and the farmers bring it to a market near you.
Downtown: Wednesdays and Saturdays
City of Knoxville
Laurel Church parking lot: Tuesdays and Fridays, 3-6 p.m.
on Kingston Pike a mile or so west of Alcoa Highway in Sequoyah Hills. there are plenty of signs.
New Harvest Farmers Market on the east side is open on Thursdays from 4-7.
Pick Tennessee Products
There are also markets in Maryville and Oak Ridge.
Buy some old favorites, try something new.

That is an excellent reminder, knoxgarden. The farmer's markets probably have lots of produce now!

I went to the Laurel Church of Christ market on Kingston Pike this afternoon. There were loads of beautiful tomatoes, many in shades I'd never seen before. Even some lovely pale violet ones. In addition to the traditional tomato and squash vendors, I saw farmers selling meat, cheese (sheep's milk - delicious!), baked goods, and herbs.

Wow. That's sound great, and most of it I can eat on my low-carb diet!

If I can, I'll try to get to the Thursday market.

There's also a new one in Farragut at the Renaissance. (Just east of Watt Rd on Kingston Pk) Dixie Lee Farmers Market sells local produce every Saturday morning.

Plus the old standby - Market square market on Sat am & wed lunch. As much a social scene as a market. I got there early and found some great deals on produce. Probably non-organic unlike the botique stuff but good nonetheless. I have to go for my weekly dose of foccacio.
