I've never noticed this before but saw a listing in Southern Living for a Blue Ribbon Country Fair on Sept. 27 and thought it looked neat. Has anyone ever visited this place?

Hik, this is a great center educationally and historically. Wish we could spend more time there during this visit. We were taken aback by the effect the CW had on families (those members left behind) and the sadness and struggles forced upon them. The NC robber barons were ruthless. The Heritage Center should appear on everyone's visit list IMO.

Thumbs up Heritage Center

Hi Hik,
My husband and I visited the Heritage center a couple of months ago. We thought it was great -- a sort of much smaller version of Appalachian Museum, but more refined and focused. They have several "outbuildings" in addition to the usual museum inside. I thought the gift shop was pretty good, with alot of local items (books, pottery, etc.) available. The owner recently purchased the gift shop and seems to be well-intentioned to improve the place.

For those interested, (or need one while there <grin>), there is a small espresso place down the road (going back toward Maryville) that we've been to a couple times as well. No bathroom though, and she also has sandwiches and small bakery items.
