Knoxville Hospitals
I have to sign up for health insurance. What are the best hospitals in Knoxville? Anyone have doctor recommendations? How about a gynecologist and surgeon? Dentists? Pediatrician? Eye doctor?
I will take ALL information. It may seem unimportant to you, but I know nothing about the medical situation around here.
I've asked coworkers, some with medical field backgrounds, and no one seems to have any opinions. Perhaps healthcare around here is really good, since I haven't heard any negatives?
Thanks!

I never in my life had to go to the hospital until 14 months ago when I had a heart attack while playing racquetball. I was taken to Fort Sanders and ended up staying there for 8 days. It was a WONDERFUL experience. The doctors and nurses were incredibly kind and patient with me--and I was rather hysterical much of the time. I'm sure other people have similar stories of other hospitals, but I cannot say enough good things about Fort Sanders.
My parents came up to stay with me, and they were also impressed. In fact, they said that the care I received at Fort Sanders was infinitely better than the care my dad received when he had open heart surgery in Ocala, Florida.

I will also highly recommend Fort Sanders Regional. Great hospital.
I also had dealings with UT Medical Center, and found that to be a top-notch place as well. My internist was there, and I would recommend her but she has moved.

I am guessing that you went to Dr Janet Purkey?

Baptist is excellent. They just merged with St. Mary's to form a mega-hospital. I've had some procedures done at Baptist and was very pleased with them.
Baptist built a new women's hospital in West Knoxville and a new state of the art hospital there. St. Mary's is also building a new state of the art facility in Powell, just north of Knoxville.
The hospitals in general here are very good.

To anyone interested, it's already open, has been for a couple of months. I haven't been inside, but from the outside, it looks beautiful!
