I'm getting ready to hire my first babysitter, a couple of afternoons per week and some weekend nights, for a 15-month-old. Anyone know what is an appropriate rate for a good, experienced sitter? I've just moved from Ann Arbor, where the going rate was $10/hr-- that always seemed high to me, and I'm wondering if it's different here.

Thanks in advance!

Margaret

$10 an hour IS high. Maybe for two kids. It depends on where you are. Downtown in a big city? $20 is more like it. Out in the sticks? $5 is it. I assume we're talking about teenagers doing the babysitting here, not adults.

I'm talking about West Knoxville-- not exactly "big city" but certainly not the sticks. I'm hoping to get a college student (U Tennessee is nearby) but would take an experienced older teenager as well.
