Hello to everyone who already knows of me, as well as those who don't. In a couple weeks we will be taking our vacation to check out what just might end up becoming our future place of retirement (in two years). We'll be staying in Kingsport for a few days, then Knoxville. Please make whatever suggestions you think will help make our stay more enjoyable. What do you suggest we not miss? Anything special going on in town? Where to stay, where the best food is, even what to stay away from. We'll be coming either Aug.4th-7th, or Sept. 11th-14th.
Thanks!

I'm guessing you will be coming in September, since your August dates have come and gone.

What kind of food do you like?
What are your interests?

Made a mistake, meant to say we'd be coming Sept. 4-7th not Aug. Any good buffets, chinese, steak, ice cream, bagels, bakeries? When on vacation we eat that naughty food that we don't usually eat. We're not into anything too fancy or expensive.
We do intend to play disc golf at all three courses. I like to shop, we like to do active things, maybe go on a picnic. I'd like to check out the tourist areas south of Knoxville, but I'm not sure we'll have time this trip. I'd love to see the mountiains! Our main intention is to drive around the area to see if it's a place we'd want call home & retire to in a couple of years. It's pretty much between Knoxville & Kingsport. We'd like to see the differences between the neighborhoods on the west side & north side.
Any input about staying at Best Western or the Econolodge, good or bad?

I'd recommend this park for a picnic. It's on the Tennessee River with the old-money mansions. Can't be beat.

City of Knoxville - Sequoyah Hills Park

My parents stayed at the Red Roof Lodge near Cedar Lane. That should get you close to the north and west sides, and you'll be in my neighborhood! They are advertising an internet deal for $53.99 at the time of your stay.

Thanks hiknapster...
I'll look into it, that's a good price. Do you know how far away that motel is from the three disc golf courses (Victor Ashe, Adm. Farrq. & morningside)? what about places to eat?

Two of them are pretty close. Probably about ten minutes. One is farther out. Admiral Farragut. Maybe 25 minutes. These are guesstimates. Your mileage may vary.

From personal experience, the BW on Cedar Bluff Road (west Knox) is great. The one on Lovell is not so good meaning I would not make a repeat visit.

if you drive South on Highway 441 across the Henley Street Bridge and go about 12 miles you will be in Seymour and you will see the most beautiful view of the mountains right in front of you as you go South, its really only about a 15-20 min drive(441 is also called Chapman Highway as you cross the Henley St Bridge)

Copper Cellar on Kingston Pike where all the UT places are is great for a good burger, also Wild Wings is right there also. There is also a new shop on Kingston Pike, not sure exact location, but its called the Cupcakery and they make all kinds of awesome cupcakes Of course you have some great places in all parts of Knoxville especially out West at Turkey Point, they have a place called Mimi's that is fantastic.

Hope you have a good trip and find a lovely place to retire

Congrats and have fun while your here. You need to check about the Sevier traffic, as at different times, it completly stops, due to different conventions. Galili is right on, and so many good places to eat, just let us know what part of town you will be, and we can point you in the right direction.
