Default Daycare $150 a week?

Is this the norm for your area? I think I am in a state of shock. We have interviews there Monday and I am trying to get an idea of what daycare will cost me there. Here in Georgia the going rate is $85 a week for one child and $45 a week for after schoolers. Are all the daycare centers there so expensive? I have a 2 almost 3 year old that would need care all day and an 8 and 6 year old that would need after school. Thanks for any input.

No. This is not the norm. What daycare is this?

LePetite is good, but they can be very high. I had looked into using them for afterschool care, and even with my discount for working for BellSouth, it was too expensive for me. This was the one on Emory, and I found their facilities to be too small. Between the two things, we decided to send our daughter elsewhere, but that is just afterschool care.

Check with Westland Childrens Academy. They are very good. The price is up there but it well worth it. I have one there now and my other went there when she was in pre-k.

That's pretty cheap compared to up here. Higher prices, substandard care but that's fairly typical for AK.

Thumbs up Daycare

Just checked-out Pride and Joy on Kingston Pike. $160/week, but that's for a 6 week old! Older children are somewhat cheaper.....IMO, not bad for taking in such a young child. Co-worker has had 2 children there for years and is very pleased with the business.

I don't know what area of Knoxville you live in, but my son is at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church's daycare (off Merchants Drive). We pay $105 for my son in preschool and $50 for my daughter's after school care. I think they charge slightly higher for children who are not potty trained. You can definitely find better rates.

Let me see if I understand so there are three children for the 150 total? Actually that is not bad for three children. I used to be a director for a corporate childcare for over 20 years and that is not a bad price if for all three. Yes an infant or a child under three you do pay more.

What area do you live in? I know of a daycare in the Hall's area. If interested, contact me.
