Knoxville area hotels
Hi all! I'll be traveling to Knoxville next week (flying not driving) and need to find a decent hotel. I can't spend a lot of money (maybe a 2 star hotel?) because I'll be staying for 5 days. Can someone suggest lodging that's affordable in a safe area? I'd like to stay closer to airport if possible but don't mind driving anywhere that would be a good place to stay. I'm looking at the Econo Lodge on 7424 Strawberry Plains Pk. Any comments on that area? I also thought I might like to stay in or around Maryville. Any good places there?

Strawberry Plains Pike isn't anywhere near the airport. But it's a safe area with a few fast-food joints, Ruby Tuesday, and Outback. It's about 10 miles east of downtown Knoxville.
There are a bunch of motels right around the airport (Alcoa). Have you done a search for those? There's everything from a Family Inns to a Fairfield by Marriott.

I've checked around the airport and can't find anything less than $70 - which isn't too bad in itself, but by the time they pile on taxes and fees, it gets a little pricey! The Econo Lodge is $55. I think there's something going on in K-ville next weekend -- a boat show maybe? Can't imagine why there would be a boat show in Knoxville in winter, but that's the scoop I'm hearing!
I checked the Family Inn reviews on trip advisor -- seems the airport noise is a problem. Maybe I don't want to stay near the airport!

Try the Jameson Inn. It is literally just down the road from the airport and we have never had a problem with noise. Breakfast is free. Waffles, cereal, doughnuts, etc.... Not sure about the rates but should be less than $70 for a single room. They have suites available for more money.

There are a couple of Super 8's in Knoxville. The one I stayed at was near Papermill Drive. It's a pretty good chain. I stayed at about 3 different ones in the past year, and they were all really nice for the price (under $65/night). The breakfasts are free, but not very extravagant. Just doughnuts, muffins, toast, coffee, juice, etc. They also have a mini laundromat right near the vending machines.
Even if you can't find something right near the airport, it shouldn't be too bad of a commute. The interstate is practically everywhere, and it should only take a few minutes to get from point A to point B (depending on the time of day, of course).
There was a Scottish Inn just down the road from the Airport on Alcoa Hwy. I don't think it was very expensive. The only problem was it didn't have DSL, which I needed.

Thank you all for your responses and suggestions. After checking them all out, I've booked the Econo Lodge Inn and Suites on Strawberry Plains Pike. Trip Advisor gave this hotel great traveler reviews, 3 stars, and comes in at #10 of 80 of their best places to stay in Knoxville. Internet prices were around $55 weekday/65 weekend not including taxes and fees. I called the hotel and got a price of 44 weekday and 52 weekend, plus a 20% AAA discount. My total for 5 days is $276. Nice ammenities - free local calls, free hi-speed internet connection, etc. etc. -- I'm well-pleased!

Skye, How was it?
How did you like the hotel while you were here? We are ready to make reservations and thought we might check out the Econo Lodge you mentioned....Thanks!
