Default Another shopping option on its way...

In addition to Costco, it appears another grocery shopping alternative is on its way. Found this on Knox News Property Scope.

Could Aldi be on its way to Knoxville? A building permit issued last month indicates that the discount grocer may be setting up shop locally.
The permit was issued for a 17,504-square foot commercial building "for Aldi, Inc.", to be located at 2801 Schaad Road.
A 2004 article in Business Week described Aldi as an "old-school German" company that is "Europe's stealth Wal-Mart."
The Scope was an enthusiastic patron at stores in Middle Tennessee and mid-Missouri, and recalls a no-frills shopping experience where you bag your own groceries, the carts require a quarter deposit (you get it back when you're done) and fancy displays are few and far between -- but the prices are cheap.

OMG, I LOVE Aldi's and I miss it.

After that, all we need is a Trader Joe's!

How does everyone feel about Food Lion? Are they more upscale or more budgety? They are building one in Tellico Village to open late this year.

Food Lion is definitely no frills. They're generally... okay, I hate to say it, but nearly every Food Lion I've been in is pretty nasty.

I hate Food Lion. I'll travel further just to avoid it. Nasty is a pretty accurate adjective.

Food Lions, from my experiences, are nothing to get excited about. Now Aldi, on the other hand, is pretty nice and priced low. While my wife and I continue to debate whether to relocate to Knoxville or Louisville, we actually saw Louisville had several Aldi locations and Knoxville had none. My wife loves Aldi so that was a small victory for Louisville's cause, but can't say that anymore! Now if you could just get a Cheddar's restaurant. Aldi is very no frills, but a better no frills than Food Lion IMO.

The only food lions I have ever been in (they are all over in MD) I have only been in one time each--enough to not go back. I wouldn't shop there, I don't think, if they built one here. what I really miss is Safeway.

Cheddars are a great restaurant in pockets all over the country. We used to have em here in West MI, but like so many other businesses, they left. They consider themselves as the pefect American restaurant focusing on made-from-scratch food in an upscale atmosphere. Don't let "upscale" scare you, they are not expensive. To me there menu is similiar to an Applebee's, but I have not been to a Cheddar's in years. There is one in Johnson City and another in Kingsport and in Tarheel country, Asheville.
