Gas prices
Yesterday the gas station on the corner was $3.64 this morning it was $3.99. I filled my daughters car with gas at 10:00 for $3.89 and by noon it was $4.10. Let's pray for the people of Texas and hope oil refineries get back on track soon.
What prices have you seen gas?

I was on empty yesterday afternoon and filled it for $3.56 for regular on Kingston Pike in West Knoxville. Was going to wait and fill today, glad I didn't.
Waiting to hear what Bill Haslam, mayor of Knoxville, has to say. His family owns Pilot gas stations/truck stops. Unfortunately, he's term limited and not up for reelection.
PS: Right after I posted this, had a crawl come across the screen saying Pilot will hold a press conference at 3:30.
(I run WVLT weather on my desktop. Handy. Has the temp in my taskbar and one click to access satellite weather. I get crawls on breaking news and weather warnings.)

The refineries were shut down for Gustav, and it takes time to get them back online. Ike has kept that from happening. Heard on FOX News today that production from the Gulf is down to 70-75% of normal, and Ike will bring that production down even more.
The high prices are here in the US only (at least, as of this morning). It's all about supply and demand.

Supply and demand and some opportunistic price gouging.
Many gas stations are out of gas in West Knoxville, and it's creating panic. The price was $3.69 this morning, then $3.89 when I drove by at lunch, then $4.49 and they just raised it to $4.99. Cars are lined up to get gas, blocking traffic on both Kingston Pike and Northshore. My gardener didn't come today, because he ran out of gas and didn't want to pay the higher price. A guy in a truck cut in front of another guy at the Pilot and a fight broke out. This is insanity! I've never seen anything like it.

A gas station owner in Fl was sent a letter and was told to expect gas to be $5 within 24 hrs, looks like its not even going to wait for the 24hrs. We filled up but they are telling people not to go anywhere if you dont have to, prisoner now in our own homes. And further more, oil was down today to $100 a barrell, they had to find another way to raise the prices so Ike was it.

My hubby was on Broadway earlier and gas at the Pilot acroos from Fulton was at $4.60 at 3:30. Also, was at the hair salon today and a guy was in there and works at TVA,he said they heard that Nashville was completely out of gas! P.S... got my hair cut shorter so the cut will last a little longer because of the gas prices!!!
All this is really scary but all we can do is pray for everything.. not just gas!
I guess we need to look at it this way.. if we need to stay home this week end and save the gas for work etc.. it's just more time we can spend with our familes and enjoy the time and relax and reflect on what we do have

Tanker just pulled in at the Pilot on Merchant's Drive, Cedar Lane side. All gas stations in that area were $4.49. This was Pilot, BP, Shell and Citgo.
No long lines in any of these stations. Busy at Pilot but no more than usual.
I don't believe any of this "we're running out of gas because of the hurricane" crap. Gailli is right. Last I looked, sweet crude was about $100 a barrel. It was $143 in July.
They are crooks.

The Conco station on Kingston Pike where I filled up yesterday for $3.56 was $4.59 today for regular. 24 hours later.
The Shell station at Gallaher View and Gleason Road is up to $3.99 from $3.69 yesterday. Not sure if they still have gas, though. It had been jammed when I went by at 3:45 p.m.

Yes, crude is down and they are selling gas they bought at low prices for high profits. It is price gouging and, apparently, TN has the worst case of it in the country.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if some of these stations aren't really out of gas. They might be holding back so they can raise the price even more tomorrow. Bet they'll all be up and running in the a.m.-- at a new price point.
