Hello all...my husband and I are going to Knoxville in November to check out a possible relocation. We have been spoiled living in areas that have lots of sidewalks and clusters of locally owned stores. We are interested in the Sequoyah Hills area and I was wondering if people actually walk the neighborhood? I know there is a path on Cherokee Blvd but was curious if people walk with dogs, kids, each other, etc other than on the Blvd?

Thanks.

I see people walk in that neighborhood all the time. There is also a great park next to the river in that subdivision.

Here are a couple of links that may help you.

Thanks so much for the links. I have visited those sites before and found great information. We plan on packing a lunch and walking around neighborhoods when we visit. I think that will give us a good idea. Thanks again.

Hey westielova, lots of people walk and jog there, as every time I in there, you always see lots of joggers, with dogs, and the West Hills area is great, with walking trails, and several place west, now have the Greenway, to walk or ride.

Ahhh great news!! We currently live in Denver, CO and it seems like every where you look, there are bike trails/greenways/parks. I went to the Knoxville parks website and was really impressed with the greenway system. Is it possible to ride bikes/walk from Sequoyah Hills to downtown via greenway systems? The maps look like it's possible but you never know how many busy roads might intersect the system.

Thanks again for all your help.

Yes, you can get downtown on the greenways.
You'd take the Sequoyah Greenway to Third Creek to Neyland Greenway.
City of Knoxville - Third Creek Greenway
At the bottom of the info sidebar on the right, there's a list of what each greenway connects to. Click on that and you'll get a map.
Sequoyah Hills has a nice little shopping center in the middle of it, at Kennesaw and Keowee. Restaurant and other little shops.
There's an excellent farmers market on Tuesdays and Fridays in season at Laurel Church Parking Lot. That's on Kingston Pike at Cherokee Blvd.

Thanks to all for your responses. I often tell my husband that you can tell how friendly/open/helpful a community is by how eager they are to provide information. I have to say that the Knoxville forum is one of the friendliest, by far. Can't wait to come and visit. We are actually going to the homecoming football game in November---going to be tons of fun!

There is currently a bike bridge under construction across the TN river that will further extend the greenway into south Knoxville.

Old North Knoxville and 4th & Gill are walkable neighborhoods with some beautiful historic George Barber homes scattered about. They're on the northern fringe of the central business district.
