Thinking about moving to Knoxville and wondering about the fishing in the area. I was wondering what the most popular lakes/rivers there are in the area for bass fishing.

Also, I know there are targets and Walmarts all around the area. Does the South have any other kind of stores similar to these that are fun to shop at. We are from Oregon and so this question is for the wife.

Thanks,

If your wife likes to shop, she won't have any shortage of places to pick from on Kingston Pike. There is every big chain store plus lots of boutiques tucked here and there. There are even great consignments as well as specialty shops.

As far as bass fishing, my husband and I fish at Ft. Loudon lake from the shoreline in Sequoyah Hills park. I caught a pretty nice bass right off the bank and so did he. I think mine was bigger My husband also caught a sweet smallie in Norris Lake last October. There is good bass fishing around and the lakes really aren't over fished. Fly fishing for trout in the streams is a challenge but doable if you have patience, of which I have none.

Wal-Mart and Target aplenty in Knoxville...plus Gander Mtn Sports, Bass Pro Shops, and Mast General Store - each with something you want. Trust me :~) All of the usual retail chains are here, too.

Lot's o lakes with bass. Norris, Douglas, Cherokee, Watts Bar, Ft. Loudoun, Melton Hill & Chilhowee just around the Knoxville vicinity. A few hours drive gets you to Center Hill or Nickajack in Tennessee...Guntersville in Alabama...or Fontana in North Carolina. Most, if not all, have dry/wet dock marinas scattered about and numerous ramps to put in.

Fishing is very good here. You'll find good info at the Tennessee Wildlife site.
TWRA Fisheries Management Division
You'll find BASS masters around:
BMTV Home Page
and other fishing clubs.
Blue Ridge Bassmasters
For most people in the area, going fishing is a part of life. It's hard to be more than 10-15 minutes from a place to fish.
We've got great shopping. The usual malls and such in Knoxville and every outlet store known in Pigeon Forge/Galtinburg.

Hey bassman, fishing is great here, as many tournaments are held, some weekly, during certain seasons, and plenty of guided tours, if you want to catch the 20 to 40 lb stripers, and big bass. Most of them are caught right below Ft. Loudon dam, using live shad and bait, and run to to dam, and when its churning, float down, and magic. Oh yeah, as many have said, shops everywhere, and you can spend a day at Turkey Creek, and the Malls are nice, and way too many to mention, but she will be pleased.
