Knoxville-Morristown
We're looking for towns that would be an easy commute to work, either to Knoxville or Morristown, to relocate to. Something in between those 2 cities. Low crime, shopping(Wal- mart), affordable housing, a few places to eat.
Any suggestions??

Jefferson City is between Morristown and Knoxville. It has a Wal-Mart, Carson-Newman College, and some places to eat.

There's lots of places like that in Knoxville, too.

There are definitely a few communities that would fit this profile, as mentioned above earlier Jefferson City will be the largest. Dandridge, Carter just outside of Knoxville, New Market area, and the Alpha community. While we are all a slight bit prejudiced to Knoxville, as most of us live here, if your lifestyles, housing needs, and personal preferences fit this style of living more than Knox, then you do have some options out there. Jefferson City will contain more shopping, dining, and entertainment (movie theater, bars) than the other areas. The others will be more rural and provide more land and an open feel, though with that comes the further drive for some modern ammenities. Knoxville will be to the west, and Morristown to the east, both easily accessed via major interstates routes. Crime is these areas are low, though if you are moving near Morristown, Newport does have a noticably higher crime rate than other areas.

Unless something has changed in the recent past, all of Jefferson county is dry. I only add this in due to the above mention of entertainment that included bars. This too is the case in Hamblen County which is where Morristown is.
When I first moved here to TN, I lived in Jefferson County. I moved out within 3 years.

You're absolutely right, I was thinking of a place called PR's in Johnson City, not Jefferson City. My bad.

the Mouse is right on, and you just have to develop a taste for the beers served, or carry you wine in to some resturants.

Thank you. That was very helpful. Where is Tellico Plains? Is it real rural? I've seen many nice houses for sell there. How about Blaine, Mascot, Luttrell?

Tellico Plains is about 40 minutes southwest of Maryville, via Highway 411 and turning south on to 68. It is close to Madisonville, TN and the North Carolina border. Yes, it is quite rural. There are some nice houses there, especially if you are looking for land with your home. Though, in your original post, you stated an easy commute would be important. Commute to Knoxville, while not hard, will take some time, about 45 minutes via Highway 68 and Interstate 75 north. There are many older style homes, with acreage available in this area, and land value here is much less obviously than places around the Knoxville metro area. Blaine, Mascot, and Luttrell are all three respectively rural. There are located northeast of Knoxville, and accessed via Highway 11 W off of Interstate 640, the Knoxville bypass. Driving north, they will geographically fall in line Mascot, Blaine, Luttrell. Not as remote as Tellico Plains, and a Knoxville commute will be shorter and much easier than from there. If you're looking for rural living, but with easy commutes, you may want to look into the Halls, Karns, or Powell areas. These are considered the Knoxville metro areas primarily, and there are many rural type setting homes in these areas that are quite affordable.

Morristown, will no longer be dry, as mbmouse pointed out, as they just passed the new law, and Mouse, you will have to drive down from Tri-city, and check it out. In response to outlaying cities, too many to name, within a 20 to 30 minute drive of major cities, such as Knoxville, and Morristown. Good luck on you choices.
