Maryville or Farragut?
Hi everyone,
My husband and 15-month-old daughter are moving to Knoxville from Maine, primarily to be closer to family. Can anyone offer insight as to the pro's and con's between Maryville and Farragut, as far as opportunities for new business growth and family opportunities?
We're outdoorsy people, which seems to lend well to Maryville and the mountains, but wonder if Farragut has hidden gems with the parks and water nearby.
Appreciate all thoughts!
thanks!

Since the drive time between the two is less than a half hour, you might find the house you like in Farragut, but still be close to go to the mountains, or vise versa, you could live in Maryville, and be a half hour from Turkey Creek.

good point, thank you. Shopping is much less appealing to us than a walk in the woods, but housing prices also matter... we'll look into those differences between Farragut and Maryville.
Any thoughts on if one of the towns has better schools than the other?
thanks again!

Outdoor activities are more true to form "outdoorsy" by location in Maryville, given their proximity to the mountains. But it really depends on what you like to do in the outdoors. Farragut has plenty of boating, some hiking and biking at Concord Park, more hiking and biking not far away at Haw Ridge close to Oak Ridge via a 10 minute drive on Pellissippi Parkway, and greenways for walking. There are some great parks in Farragut on and around the water, and nearby. Maryville is closer to the mountains, camping, trail riding, and various outdoor sports. What kind of outdoor activities do you like?
What kind of business do you plan on trying to grow? Certain businesses are saturated in Farragut, while some would be more than welcomed with a smile. Maryville may have more business growth opportunity, but again, it depends on what you plan. Both areas have great upsides, and as Barking Spider said, both can be accessed by a relatively short drive.

I was not happy with Farragut schools and have been very happy with Maryville schools. Housing prices are higher in Maryville city than Farragut.

Here are some links comparing data on Farragut and maryville, for the high schools, intermediate, and primary schools. This is strictly data, not opinionated, nonbiased. I had a lot of friends go to Farragut with mixed results, but I do know Maryville gets a lot of praise from parents and students.

Also, just to be clear and properly inform you, housing in Farragut is much higher on average than in Maryville. Current median value for Farragut on market property is $469,059, while the city of Maryville has a median value of $247,835. These are for currently listed properties only, and taking into account that Farragut has a larger swing in the high and lows, with multiple million dollar homes, that will bring that number closer together to a true representation. Two links listed below, from the city data site, which more or less mirrors my search site, show true average values of Farragut homes at around $297,000, with Maryville around $188,000, which takes into account on market and off market properties.

Are you interested in public schools only? Farragut also offers several excellent private schools as well. Christian Academy, Catholic, Tate and Webb just to name a few.

To clarify, I didn't mean median house value. There are less houses in Maryville city than in Farragut. To buy the exact same house in Farragut and Maryville city, generally speaking, you will pay more in Maryville city. There are many more lower priced homes in Maryville city as Blount county as a whole has much lower income per resident than Farragut. Of course, a few folks with extremely high incomes (a certain football coach comes to mind) may skew this.

Can you all tell me what is "Turkey Creek?" I've been seeing the name a lot and I gather it is a shopping district. Correct?
