Does Knoxville have typical suburbs? What's a good area for a single guy to buy house? (Tazewell: for sale, real estate)

Hello everyone,

Being a single guy with two cats (straight) the last place I want to find myself is out in the suburbs. It would be lonely out there, and I would
feel like a perv.

I am currently living in Denver. I am looking to move in the next two months.
There are a lot of suitable areas in Denver that fit my needs (in-town,
non-suburban, charming house, cafes nearby), but the houses in these areas are far outside my price range.

My price range is only 120-125K. Houses in Denver in this price range
are pathetic, and this is the primary reason I am relocating.

I am looking closely at Knoxville because it has the kind of X factors I am interested in.
It is a larger city, and yet has a college town influence.
It has the Smokey Mountains nearby. And lots of rivers and trees.

So do you have any suggestions for nice neighborhoods where a single
guy won't feel out of place, and yet where I can afford to live? I want a detached house and not a condo.

Work is not an issue right now, I will find work regardless.

I just don't want to live in a scuzzy neighborhood where most of the houses are in need of razing, I definitely want some modest charm.

I am very serious about my move so thanks for your ideas.

I'm a single guy and definitely understand why you don't want to live in suburbs.

In your price range you shouldn't have any problems finding a decent home in a decent in-town neighborhood. In fact, there are some in my neighborhood that are currently for sale that look cute as a button:

The two on Edgewood are particularly interesting because they're just down the street from a public park with tennis courts and a branch library.

Every one of those houses is great! We have awesome areas like this. South Knoxville and Fountain City are like that, too. They are a little farther away from downtown, though.

Congrats murof, as jmt and hiknapaster have suggested, North Hills is great, and also many homes in the Holston Hills area, and also Colonial Village in south Knoxville. Another area for good homes in that price range, would be the Cumberland area, and also so many in Fountain City, and also Tazewell Pike area. Good luck, and move on down and enjoy!

The North Hills house shows fairly well, I did a tour of it last Saturday for a new buyer. In the exterior picture, the ivy looks a bit overgrown and unkept, but in person it really looks a lot more clean and has character. The only downside was the one bath per three bedrooms. I would state my opinion on destinations, but I think the previous posts gave a pretty good tally of areas to search in. Most homes in this price range will be older, but defintely and A+ on the charm. Many have been tastefully remodeled a bit, but not too much as to keep with the appeal of the exterior of the home. Welcome to Knoxville soon, and I think you'll be pleased with what our area has to offer.
