I am a fan of credit unions and you have a number to choose from around here. Most seem to just require residency in the area---not that you work for ORNL or whatever.

Now does anyone have a recommendation on a bank? We're considering the Y-12 credit union at this point because he'll be a B&W employee, but I'm open to all suggestions!
Credit Unions are good, though one thing to consider is opening an account with someone that can also run your home loan when you decide to purchase, as there are incentives programs out there. You may want to check with Y-12, on their current guidelines and regulations and interest rates compared to others. There is a guy that works there named Brent Watts that works in the lending department, who can also get you signed up in banking, that would be beneficial to talk to. There is also a great lender on here, who runs the residential lending department for Community South Bank. She as well could get you signed up for banking, as well as discuss your best options for what fits your needs in banking and lending overall. Her screen name is Colleen Brock if you want to DM her and pick her brain.

Y-12 would be very convenient for you because they have just opened a new branch right at the intersection of Pellissippi and Hardin!!

Thanks, everybody! I noticed that Y-12 branch at Pellissippi and Hardin Valley Rd last time I was down there, on our way to tour the Forest Ridge apartments. It seems like a lot of their branch locations would be very convenient for us based on where we'd be working and living. Plus we really love their logo since my bf will be an engineer for nuclear projects

I live in that area and really enjoy it. There's plenty of movies, restaurants, shopping close by and we feel pretty safe here.

Of course, I am married with kids. If you are in mid-twenties, you might find that you want easier access to the downtown nightlife.

oh, yeah... There's a brand new Kroger (big) off Kingston Pike, just west of Lovell Rd. It's much less crowded than Turkey Creek.
