Smile Hello! - Moving to Oak Ridge Area

Hello everybody!

Me and my family have been living in San Diego for five years now and we really want to move to a place where people are friendlier, houses are affordable for normal people and not only millionaires and where a guy with a yellow corvette and plate "THELORD" won't cut you off on the freeway ...and we are considering the Oak Ridge area. I am already in the process of getting a job, and whenever I get an offer we'll be moving.

Just wanted to let everybody know that it's possible that we'll become neighbours

I have a question...Is it relatively easy to rent a house (not an apartment)? Since we are now renting a house and have soooo much stuff. I am not even sure if we can fit everything in a trailer...

Thanks!

Sandie,

Best of luck with the job offers. Here are a few links that have some rental homes available from knoxnews.com. The first is in Oak Ridge, but only 3. The next two are for zip codes 37923 and 37932 in Knoxville, which provide easy access to Pellissippi Parkway, which give a straight shot to Oak Ridge. Rental homes are quite easy to find right now, the Sunday paper will have hords of homes, though they get snached up pretty quick. Browsing the online classifieds at Knoxnews.com will give you a good idea of what's out there, and check it on Sundays.....

Moderator cut: sorry, no links per Sr Mods, please send them in DM now. They can be posted in Classifieds though!

Hey Sandie, congrats on your chosing our area, and as Willam tried to post, many places to choose from, and a good many Oak Ridgers, commute from several places. You will see that anything off of the Pellissipi Pkw, will but you in an easy 20 minute drive. The Oak Ridge Labs, are doing lots of hiring, as I understand they are working to make it, one of the best in the country.

Thanks guys for your replies. How good are the salaries at ORNL? Are they equivalent to a private company?

Ornl is very competitive, as anytime you work for the government, can not be too bad. Go to the site, and see. Good luck, and be ready for some difference, coming from your beautiful area. The cost of living is lots lower here.

We live in Oak Ridge and my DH works at ORNL. And yes, salaries are very competitive there. It'll just depend on what you do and how much knowledge you have. So check it out.

Check in the Knoxville Sentinel or Oak Ridger (both have web sites) for rental listings. Or you might check with a realtor in the area. Sometimes they can help find rentals.

Good luck!
