Never thought to ask, what kind of bugs, etc. do you have out there? Snakes, lizards, mosquitos, chiggers, tarantulas, scorpions? Are they the same in rural areas as in the city? Is there many mosquitos at the lakes? I was in Texas a few years ago, at the lake, I was eaten alive by mosquito(I guess that's what they were.!!) Thanks for your help again!!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

mosquitos? Well, there is a lot of water here, and in the summer there are mosquitos. I haven't seen any big enough to carry off small children though.
Wasps, hornets and other flying stinging things
I'm sure I forgot a bunch.

As barking spider has stated, no mosq, so big as to hurt, and you just have to wear some repellent.

Really? On the mosquitos...um, DH gets eaten ALIVE by them here...like he never did before. Strange.

I got bitten a lot too, this summer, but he definitely got bitten up.

Are you familiar with yellow jackets?! Not sure if they are mainly in the SE or nationwide. Attacked by two different nests this year while doing yard work! They're underground so there is little warning! Other info: Most common poisonous snake is the copperhead. Not usually deadly. Water moccasins are mainly West TN. Mosquitoes can be bad in moist areas but nothing like Florida. Coyotes have moved into the area in recent years. Foxes are surprisingly common in suburban areas, as I have a family behind my house.

You only think mosquitoes are not that bad only because they are all in my backyard!

On my two summer visits I was surprised at the lack of mosquitos. I usually am a mosquito magnet and get bitten bad, and I didn't even need repellant while I was there. Maybe we just got lucky.

I live on the border of the city and the country and I haven't seen a lizard or a cockroach since I moved from Florida. We do get mosquitoes, but not as bad as we had them in Tampa Bay. I've yet to get chiggers and I've only seen a snake in Great Smoky Mountain National Park (so I'm sure they're around).

My welcomed pest are fireflies and ladybugs. We have plenty of those ;-)

we have ladybugs here, even in November!
Back in md we only saw them in the springtime or maybe early fall, so it's interesting to see them so late in the year!
