Default A day in Knoxville

We are visiting East TN this month and want to spend a day in Knoxville. Can someone give me a list of "must do's" for an entire day that does not include shopping. Daughter would like to go to a few art galleries but other than that the whole day is open. Also where do we have lunch and dinner (we are vegetarians)?

Anyone know of any plays or shows going on in the area?

There will be a lot to do this month given the season. I don't have a lot on my mind right now, but there's a lot of people on here with great info about the "going on's" of Knoxville and will surely post. If you're looking for vege, the Tomato Head in Market Square downtown and the Sunspot on Cumberland Ave (university strip) both have highly rated vege options. Have fun on your trip to Knoxville.

I should list the dates in case there are special events going on.

Most restaurants offer vegetarian entrees that are quite good. My sister is a vegetarian (she does eat seafood) and had no problems at all finding things she could eat and really loved.
Sunspot and Tomato Head are both good. You'll also find good vegetarian selections at the lunch buffets at the two Indian restaurants on Kingston Pike: Taj and Sitar. Both have daily lunch buffets, including weekends.
If you like Thai food, try Taste of Thai. Excellent veggie and Tofu curries.
If you avoid places that advertise BBQ/Barbecue and home cooking, you'll be fine. You can find menus online here:

My favorite special place right now is Rouxbarb. Love it. Bring your own wine, though. Stop at Ashe's on Kingston Pike and ask for recommendations.

There are all kinds of things going on for Christmas. You can check the calendar here:

and download a pdf.
Also check out Metropulse, the alternative weekly.

Info on art galleries and such downtown is here:

Do spend some time downtown. With the lights and the skating rink and the shops, it's a nice place to visit. You can get around easily on the free trolleys.

Enjoy your visit to Knoxville.
