They're calling it a "sludge slide." News story and video here.
No fatalities, extensive damage after sludge-slide in Roane County / - Knoxville, TN - Local News, Regional News, National News, International News, Breaking News, Consumer News, Health News, Morning News, Political News
It's quite bad. The levee broke on a huge pond that holds ash from coal burned at the TVA fuel plant. That got dumped on the houses nearby, pushing them across the road, burying them in sludge. So far, no fatalities reported.

Thank goodness it's finally coming on the national news. Took them a while. Unfortunately this is the water supply for many TN residents. (Chattanooga, anyone?)
This spill is 50 times larger than Exxon-Valdez. http://blogs.roanoke.com/rtblogs/new...-in-tennessee/
Kudos to the Sentinel for putting up Youtube videos. This is really an atrocity and the sad part is, it's avoidable. Our beautiful TN land is being ruined.

Yeah!!! I just saw it tonight, they made it sound like it happened this morning. I was checking TN city-data and did not see it posted any where sorry if I over looked it on another city or topic..... for any one who did post it earlier. I figured it was half way between Crossville and Knoxville.
Sorry SPLIT..... did not see it listed till now. Ops!

Housing Buy -Outs .?
Yes, Gang , seems this has been on National 6:30pm tv news last few night .
Made the Chatt 5pm news same, day . Some reports are saying all the FISH kills happened when the wall of water THREW them up on shore, rather than all this Toxic chemicals reporters keep mentioning.
. Remember Jan was suppose to be a 20% rate reduction , because of the decrease $ cost of gasoline. Wonder if that will now be thrown out .!
Guess the neighborly thing to do would Buy OUt the housing property of all affected , Then have more land to store this somewhat re-cycle road material in future.
. Doubt if the 6 houses would want to re-build on that soft dirt. Hard to re-sell even in the future. Knew it was a MESS from the 1st minute.
NOt sure how many towns take drinking water out of river . South of Dayton our Bakewell company has lots of WELLS it draws from.
.. INitially all news quoted a Earthen Dam or D.i.k.e, but our board **** erases those terms. Maybe dyke, but my 09 New Years Resooluution will be to use better spelling.?
