Does Knoxville get snow? {QUOTE]

Yes, they average 7 inches a year, but it is usually gone within a day or two. Several years ago they got dumped with 7 inches, an unusual occurrence.

Kahite is the only neighborhood that has all it's own amenities. Here is a link to Google maps showing Kahite.

The other neighborhoods are strung together and is 6+ miles long as the crow flies. Here is link to Google maps showing Tellico Village main neighborhoods. If you zoom you can find the recreation centers, Tellico Village Yacht Club, Tanasi Bar & Grill (Club house), Toqua Club House, family parks, boat ramp, ETC.

Do they really average 7 inches of snow a year?!?!?! I have been here a full calendar year, and it snowed three times. Once we got an inch, and once we got 1/2 inch, and the third time we got 1/4 inch. In fact, the third time it snowed, it snowed in the morning hours, and by 4pm it was 65-degrees and ALL the snow was gone. NOT a trace of it anywhere, even in the all-shade areas. Crazy and unpredictable weather in Tennessee, lol.

It would be rare to have more than 2 inches at one time. It's happened, but not on an annual basis. I've been here 7 years and have seen as much as 5-6 inches once, and two inches maybe twice. Other than that, it's a dusting of less than an inch. I think 7 inches annually is a bit of a stretch, but I would guess that's not unheard of. It typically melts by the afternoon, or a day or two at most.

To add to my last post.

Remember that annual average snowfall, temps, ETC. are over a period of up to 50 years depending on who is doing it. Weather can change quite a bit one year to the next. Where I live we average 48 inches of snow per year, some years we get very little (for us) other years we can get dumped on. example 6 years ago we broke a 133 year record, the total snowfall for that season was 95 inches.

Here is the last ten years of data for Lenoir City, TN:
Year Total Snowfall

2010---4.0
2011---1.6
2012---0.0
2013 ---1.1
2014 --12.5
2015 --13.3
2016 ---7.3
2017 ---3.7
2018 ---3.6
2019 ---1.2
2020 ---2.0

This is the website I used to get the above data.
xmACIS2
These are the setting I used.
single station, snowfall, sum, 2010-2020, annual, station selection = Lenoir City

That's also the annual total, not the total for one snowstorm. But yes, clearly two years skewed the average to the high side, because 7 out of 10 years had less than 4 inches. That's the trouble with statistics like the "average" anything. The outliers skew the average higher. Maybe a better stat to check than "average" might be "typical".

Typical annual snowfall in Knoxville is 0-4 inches, with notable exceptions.

Hi The Shadow,
How are you doing?

My question for you is what is the definition for typical?

Look at Lenoir City's snowfall data from 1995 to 2020

Year total snowfall
1995 ---4.0
1996 ---6.1
1997 ---5.1
1998 ---0.3
1999 ---3.5
2000 ---1.5
2001 ---0.0
2002 ---0.0
2003 ---6.0
2004 ---0.0
2005 ---0.0
2006 ---0.4
2007 ---0.0
2008 ---0.0
2009 ---0.0
2010 ---4.0
2011 ---1.6
2012 ---0.0
2013 ---1.1
2014 --12.5
2015 --13.3
2016 ---7.3
2017 ---3.7
2018 ---3.6
2019 ---1.2
2020 ---2.0

For the last 25 years the snowfall has been between 0 to 7 inches per year, 8 of those years there wasn't any snowfall at all and couple of years around 12-13 inches. But a 25 year period isn't even a drop in a bucket for weather prediction. if you look further back (1962-89), you'll see 17 years where the annual snowfall is 8 to 18 inches per year. Between 1962-89 there are only 6 years where the total snowfall is 2 to 5 inches. (Lenoir City data starts in 1962).

So from my point of view, be it 0, 4, 6 or 18 inches snowfall per year is a lot less than I am used to and one of the reasons we are planning to move to TV. Now if I was from California, this might sound like a lot. It's all relative.

I may have been mistaken with a single snowfall of 7 inches a couple of years ago. It may have been 5 or 6 inches. But it was enough that the Tellico Village (Public Works Dept?) snowplows plowed Tellico Parkway (444) to aid TV residents in coming and going. TV didn't get reimbursed for plowing Tellico Parkway. I read about it in one of the publications I receive from TV.

I would say my definition of typical is "most years". 20 out of the 26 years you just posted (1995 to 2020) had 0-4 inches. Now parts of CA get 400 inches annually, so EVERYTHING is relative. The 7" storm was our first winter here, 2014. We thought it was awesome. I wish we could get a few more of those once in a while. I love the snow as long as it doesn't require shoveling or blowing. We clear our walk here with our leaf blower if it hasn't started to melt.

Last month I posted a photo to our local news station of our rain gauge and they showed it on air. 7" of rain in 24 hours!

Great information here - thank you, all!
On a different note, am I mistaken, or is there an outdoor pool (besides Kahite) within TV? I've seen pics of the Wellness Center's indoor pool, but I thought there was an outdoor option.

Also - in doing quick research into available lots, I noticed the very reasonable prices ($7,000) for what seems to be decent lots. Why the low prices? Makes me think the descriptions (e.g., flat, wooded, suitable for a walkout basement, etc.) aren't accurate. Has anyone looked at looked at lots lately - or know someone who has built recently?

Thank you in advance for your time and perspective.
