Default Food and Cost of Gasoline in Grainger County

Planning on relocating to TN from CA. Trying to calculate some cost difference and need help. I have wages, housing and taxes covered but having a hard time with everyday items such as:

Price range on:

Gallon of milk
Loaf of bread
can of champbells soup
apples
gallon of gas

average water bill for family of 4
average electric bill
average gas bill

Thanks all for any input.

PS-" Hi John "

I'm not in Grainger Co. but i'm in the next county over, Jefferson. Can't imagine things are gonna vary much, even from Knoxville to here.

Gallon of milk- 3.99-4.99 depends on brand and type

Loaf of bread 1.19-? depends again, on brand and type. I think the WalMart bread is 1.19

can of champbells soup-um, .59 for the condensed type, I think.

apples- depends. Do you want a bag o' apples? 2.50 or so for 3 lbs. Fluctuates with the seasons, it seems. Loose apples can often be had for .99 a pound. Also depends on type and where ya buy them. At Weigels (gas station) .59 each, at fruit markets they're generally .99 a lb.

gallon of gas- anywhere from 1.59-1.69

average water bill for family of 4- not a clue, many people have a well.
average electric bill- depends on the house and means of heating. My house is 3800 sq ft and three levels, brick, built within the past ten years and my last electric bill (we have CH&A) was four hundred. Typically runs about 200-300 a month, though.

average gas bill- not a clue, we don't have gas here.

Hope this helps.

One thing of note, Grainger County is a very beautiful, very rural area. If you're from a more populated city area, it may be a bit of a shock.

For food prices you might want to go to the local food ads, plug in the local zip code and see what the flyers look like. Rutledge, in Grainger Co, has a zip of 37861. Some of the grocers around here are Food Lion Food City - Welcome to Food City, KVAT Food Stores, Inc. ingles.com Kroger - Home Now, not all companies have stores right there but you can get an idea from those and surrounding areas (like Knoxville and Kingsport).

For gas prices you can go to some of the national gas price check websites like gasbuddy or gas tracker, etc. and look up current prices.

I hope this helps a bit to keep up with the current prices. Sorry I can't help with electric, etc for that area. Good luck.

Weisgarber, thank you for the correction. I hate transposed numbers that send folks on wild goose chases. I'll go edit the original post now.

Gas in Knoxville will definitely be far cheaper than in California where it's taxed much more heavily.

As SmokeyMtnGal suggested, the sales papers are a great resource for grocery prices. Most sales papers list a sales price and regular price, but don't worry, they all have sales on a weekly basis. The Food City website and sales paper should be especially helpful as it's very thick, usually around 20 pages, along with a monthly special and an organic only sales paper.
