Default Jones Cove / Sevierville Areas

I have seen several older responses about these areas. Many people say that basically crime ridden people are the only ones that live there. I've lived and worked in metropolitan areas and have dealt with and seen crime first hand. Not to mention the dirt and filth of these areas. The comments posted about Jones Cove/Sevierville make it sound as bad as the inner city crime and slums. Have the people who wrote these comments seen inner city slum areas?

You are comparing apples to oranges in a big way.

There is a different brand of lawlessness in areas like Jones Cove as opposed to say, Detroit. People in these areas, here, have lived by a code for generations. And depending on where you are Johnny Law might be backing them up. I steer clear.

On the other hand, our inner city is so tame that I would prefer to go there as opposed to turning around in the wrong driveway in, say, Cocke County.

So aren't you stereotyping people that live rurally? Your basically saying that local yocal's from this area and Cocke County are going to come out with a shot gun if you turn around in their driveway? You don't think going down a "wrong" street in an inner city that you might not have this same problem? Except it might be a glock instead of a shotgun. Crime is everywhere... albeit might not be as visible in some places as in other. Especially right now with the economy the way it is. I'm not saying that crime isn't there...but I disagree with how you are stereotyping them. You said they have their own code... so do gangs in the inner city.

Er? First you ask if rural crime is equal to inner-city crime. When Hiknapster says yes (and I agree), then you accuse her of stereotyping natives/locals?

Okay......

Her comment about nice inner-city areas was discussing Knoxville, only.

The way it works in most places in the South (excluding some special areas, like most of Florida, Charleston, Atlanta, et. al.) is REAL crime - drugs - takes place in the most rural of areas. In the area I grew up, just a couple weeks ago there was mini shooting spree over drugs. There is tons of trafficking up and down I-26 and I-81 (and probably I-40, though I don't know about that) and there are meth lab trailers sprinkled around the countryside. So, is there lots of crime here? Yes. Is it located in mostly rural areas like (not saying SPECIFICALLY, merely like!) Jones Cove? Yes.

Hopefully that answered your question!

I am a local yocal also plus I have lived in some very large US cities with gang problems. I happen to agree with both jab and hik. However, I don't think that one needs to compare certain areas here with big cities elsewhere.

One of my sons is in law enforcement and another is in emergency medicine and both know of what goes on in that area and both would agree with hik and jab. There is more than most folks would ever want to write on a public message board.

The opinions expressed on this message board are just that, opinions. No one needs to take anything here as truth and all are encouraged to find their own truth. The long term posters here that give so much of themselves and their opinions and knowledge about the area are to be commended for sharing. Newer posters are encouraged to keep seeking the truth.
