Has anyone taken their pets to Dr. Shaw at Ideal Veterinary Hospital? We are looking for a good vet in the Oak Ridge area and would be interested in hearing any feedback you could give us about this particular clinic. Thanks a bunch!

I recommend Dr. Rick Hinson at the Oak Ridge Veterinary Hospital. If it were not for Dr. Hinson our 9 week old puppy would not have lived the 5 wonderful years we had him. Rick sacrificed his time to take our puppy home with him (twice) and nursed him back to health. Sadly though we had to put our dog down back in July 2008 due to his illness.

AND, it's not just Dr. Hinson, but also the staff. They are wonderful people. My sister-in-law also takes her dog to Dr. Hinson and always has.

Here's there phone number and address:

Oak Ridge Veterinary Hospital
513 Oak Ridge Turnpike
Oak Ridge, TN 37830
(865) 483-6614

They are located on the East end of Oak Ridge just passed the Christian Outreach church on the right. If you pass the old Ray Adcox Chevy lot on the right, you've gone to far. Hope this helps.

Hi, I know I'm late but wanted to respond for future reference. We have used Ideal Vet and they are great. We have two cats and they have been very professional and loving toward our kitties. Their prices are affordable as well.

I did take my catahoula cur to OakRidge Veterinary Hospital. The faciltiites were very nice. We saw Dr.Kris and really liked her. The staff was professional yet impersonal. They paid absolutely no attention to my dog at all. She couldnt even walk on one rear leg and not one of them asked what was wrong or expressed any concern whatsoever. They told me to have a seat and 30 minutes after my appt. time, we were seen by a vet tech first. When I explained to the tech that I found "Delilah" at 12 weeks old and that she had been fearful of males ever since......he paid no attention and proceeded to speak loudly and approached her too quickly. Not too impressed here, like I said , with the staff. However, I did like the Dr. Not sure.....will probably try Ideal next. We have 5 dogs and two are actually due for their shots now. I also want to mention that due to needing 2 x-rays upon our visit, and 10 pills of medicine, the grand total was $300.00! Wow - maybe it would be worth it to travel back to Mississippi to see our vet when needed. Unbelieveable!

I use Ideal, and I love them. William takes care of the animals, and he treats them like they are his own. Dr. Shaw is great, very down to earth, and can empathize with not only the animals but the humans as well. (Cause sometimes we need it) There is another doc there, not too keen on her, but I do like Dr. Shaw. The staff typically recognize you or your name, and your pet and always give the animals lots of love.

I have used Ideal since they opened and used to work for Dr. Shaw at Pellissippi! He is the absolute most caring, animal-loving doctor I have ever met and he cares for the people, too! I drive from Knoxville to see him and would never reconsider it!

Dr. Shaw has been a good vet for my cat and dog for the last two years. He was extremely helpful and proficient in vetting my old cat with kidney failure in her final years. I am pleased with his care of my boxer. The staff go beyond the call of duty and are compassionate and most thoughtful. I highly recommend the Ideal Veterinary Clinic. Sincerely, Tab Peryam

I am looking for a vet for my dog who is relatively healthy but has a few issues. We are at OR vet hospital but do to some personal issues with the support staff so we are changing vets. We have heard great things about Dr. Shaw but were wondering if he had an after hrs/emergency policy? We have had to use the pet ER in Knoxville but hope to avoid the cost.
