Are y'all sure your allergies are not mold (spring spores after rains) related? My dearly valued spouse departed last summer at 62 of candida fungal pneumonia within 2 weeks of burning symptoms. The dearly beloved american diet (pizza, pasta, bread, soda, sugar, beer) feeds yeast colonies that break through arteries instead of passing through gut, and head straight for the lungs to set up camp and replicate.

I'm not bothered by allergies but my husband is. And a lot of people I know that have allergies take all those antihistamines and don't get a lot of relief, they do sleep well though! My husband has had much better luck by using a nasal wash and then eye drops to help the itchy eyes. But he nasal wash is what really did the trick and made it more manageable. He uses this product called Xlear. It's a xylitol nasal spray wash. Some people use the nettie pot too for actually "washing" the nasal sinus. Makes sense actually, wash all the pollens and stuff that collect in the nose out of there so they don't keep building up until a person is overwhelmed with the allergens.

I moved to Knoxville before the 24-hour, non-drowsy antihistamines hit the market. For years, it was a nightmare, but mainly in the spring. Eventually, I found "Dr. Bob," who specialized in treating allergies. I learned that a combination of pill and nasal spray worked best for me. If you have seasonal allergies, it might be wise to get tested. I learned that I was allergic to oak trees. No oak trees were in my yard. I also have an allergy to certain pets--cats more so than dogs. I adopted a so-called hypo-allergenic, non-sheeding breed, which unfortunately lowered my tolerance level in the spring. In other words, I learned not to stack allergens after it was too late. Consequently, I had to take a stronger antihistamine and use more nasal spray--this lead to congestion and asthma-like conditions during the spring. Glad, I'm out of Knoxville for this reason.

The post I have on this page is from a year ago. It rained a LOT this winter. I have never seen so many daffodils in my life. And we get a lot of daffodils around here.

Well, my eyes have been bloodshot for awhile. Very bloodshot. I've been using an antihistamine eye drop but I wonder if I should see someone. I didn't know that's what Dr. Bob specialized in.

I have 24 trees on my lot. A couple of them are massive oaks.

Of course, last year I didn't have these issues. It might not even be allergies, I guess. But we were in a drought last year.

I was doing ok with allergies until i moved here over a year ago. Found a very good doctor who worked with me. Found a combo of Zyrtec and Omnarius really helps keep me in check. I usually take a pill in the am and do the nasal spray in the pm, after dinner usually.

My eyes have cleared up. In February and a bit of March they were terrible. Now my eyes are back to normal. I have no idea what I was allergic to.

By the way, this thread is really old. There is another thread on here, right now, and I looked up Knoxville and it is now ranked 11 or 12, depending on what website you go to. Greenville, NC is ranked the worst. It seems all of east Tennessee, and parts of KY, NC GA and SC are the most likely to set off an allergic situation. I guess with all of those lovely trees and flowers comes a price for some people.

If you have allergies, do not move anywhere near here.

I find the Fountain City area to be the worst. You will absolutely die. Glad I didn't have to stay long.

Those who don't should be okay... of course there are other concerns but that is no different then any other area.

Hello, I don't know if my allergies appeared because of getting old or some other reason. I do think that allergies have gotten worse since people started using those leaf blowers about twenty years ago. It is not natural for pollen to be blown back up into the air every day. I wish those leaf blowers had never been developed. Ray

I was born and raised in Knoxville and I always had terribly agitated allergies and even seasonal asthma for which I had to use inhalers and breathing treatments.

I moved away in 2006 and immediately no longer had those problems.

Do I still have allergies? Sure, but they are no where near the degree to which I'd had them the first 20 years of my life.

It's all perspective...yes, my allergies and asthma got worse when we moved to E TN 4-1/2 years ago but I'd rather deal with that than continue to live in the state we moved from! At least here, the misery is seasonal.
