Knoxville healthcare is starting to feel the effects of the down economy and layoff's have begun. Both UT Medical Center and Covenant Health have publicly stated that they are experiencing hardships.

Cuts due to continuing decline in reimbursements? That's funny, my premiums just keep going up.

I hope people realize who the problem lies with on this thing very soon. It starts with "I" and ends in "e".

Covenant has cut back all full time hours to 72 hrs every 2 weeks

Rach, is this for all positions or just certain groups?

Also, my step brother works at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport (he is an RN) and his entire unit has been cut back to 32 hours per week!

Are cutbacks related to lower patient census?

not sure if it's ALL

pt census is higher, every night more people in the ER that are admitted and NO beds to put them in
people waiting to get admitted sitting in lobby for hours till a bed becomes available
