Default Farragut or Maryville High School

Can anyone give their opinion on the differences - pros & cons between each of these high schools? They both seem like they are the best in the area, but if you had to choose one for your kids, which one would you choose? Does anyone know the # of students for each? Which one has a better football/baseball program?

Thanks!!

Both are great schools. For football, you can't beat Maryville. They are state known for being a force on the football field. Farragut has a great baseball program, but both schools offer good sports in all areas. Student size is similar I believe. I really don't think you can go wrong in either case, as I've known 100's of students that went to each school, and most loved their respective school. Farragut has an "assumed" arrogance about it by other parts of Knoxville, but in my honest opinion, it's exceptionally bloated and inaccurate. They're not snobby, rich kids as alot of people make them out to be. Both have good curriculum and high test scores. It may be a difference of seeing which area would suit you best for everyday living. But as said, I think your children would be in very good hands either way. But if it's football you want, it's Maryville!

We're blessed to have a lot of very good high schools in this area. Even the most inner-city schools in Knoxville aren't nearly as bad as what you'd find in other big cities.

I agree with William Sold, you might want to look at where you'd rather live, Farragut or Maryville, since both schools are excellent. Personally I'd rather live in Maryville because I like actual towns with real downtowns and historical areas rather than just suburbs. But if you prefer suburbs, Farragut is hard to beat.

According to TSSAA (the governing body for high school athletics in Tennessee) Maryville HS has an enrollment of 1,555 while Farragut HS has an enrollment of 1,893. And starting this coming year, Maryville and Farragut will be in the same football classification (Farragut was previously in a higher classification). I think when Maryville lost the state football championship this year it was their first loss after 30 straight wins and 4 state championships or something like that.

Not to get off the subject, but our area schools are really good. I checked where I lived in Florida. Bad. Then I checked the schools in Mass., which is suppose to have the top schools. Horrid.

I had no idea things had changed so much.

I have had my kids in both the Farragut schools and the Maryville schools. Both are good. Like others have said it is just a different feel to both areas and schools. If you want the better football program then Maryville wins hands down. I like Farragut and it was great in many respects. The one thing was in Farragut I felt like we were plugged into our church and our neighborhood but in Maryville we are plugged into the community. Not sure that makes sense but I feel that there is much more community feeling in M-ville over Farragut. That could just be us though. Maryville seems to have more of a poverty level than Farragut but that could have very recently changed due to the economy. When I lived in Farragut business owners would complain that they couldn't find teens that wanted to work since parents freely handed out money; in Maryville most teens work. Of course, generally speaking.

Please come visit and see what you think. You can't really go wrong with either one.

Just a warning: Maryville is an older community and Farragut is fairly new. Farragut has more modern areas that might appeal more or less. I urge you to look beyond the building facade's. The first time I drove through Maryville I thought some parts were pretty and charming and others not so much. To know Maryville is to know the people as well. Hope that makes sense.

Seriously? This doesn't jive with my experience at all. If anything, a lot of my friends complained because they couldn't find jobs during the summer.

To the OP - I transferred to FHS during the second semester of my junior year, and I had a great experience there, even despite my initial reservations (big school, supposedly rich & snobby kids, etc). I'm not sure how much has changed since I left, but it's a very well-rounded school that provides its students with every opportunity to pursue their interests, no matter what those interests may be.

Yes, really. Please make sure you noted: "When I lived in Farragut". Your miles may vary. Keep in mind I was talking to the employers and you were talking to the kids.
