It looks like a very nice area when we visited it in early July, so much so that we have begun our house search and are planning a trip to look at some houses we liked

I live in the Carter area and love it. We are far enough away from the hub bub of the city but close enough to take shopping trips to the East Town Mall.(15 mins) there are a few supermarkets in this area Food City / Krogers on Ashville highway and anothe cheapie one on Andrew Johnson Highway. I live very close to Carter School, but do not have children there so can't comment on the school. We are retired and I work from home and kids have flown the nest. Carter is in the middle between Sevierville/ Pigeon Forge(15 mins) if you want night life, and Knoxville(15 mins) if you want stores etc. On your drive from Morristown to the Carter area, you have all the main stores too like Walmart etc. and tons of restaurants. And I believe Morristown has a big mall too. Puleos restaurant is one of the best which is 5 mins from Carter, together with Ruby Tuesdays, McDees, Arbys. The drive from Morriston to Carter would be fine too, not nearly as much traffic as there is on I-40 from West Knoxville to Carter. PM me if you want any specific info. I'm more than happy to help.

Carter is okay. Not the best area of Knoxville, by far.

And I wouldn't rely on the East Town Mall - now called Knoxville Center - because who knows how long that will last. Of course, every year around Christmas time I say they are going to shut it down and every year it crawls along. I think they have an alternative ed department in there, now but there are very few stores. West Town Mall and Turkey Creek in the western part of Knoxville has the great shopping.

I live in the northern part of Knoxville, in the Fountain City area. Older homes but nice. Newer homes are in the western part of the city, for the most part. Most of anything you want is going to be downtown and points west, for the most part.

I see you are interested in TTC for school. That's in Bearden, where I own a business. That is just west of the city.

Regarding schools, Knox County has great schools. Test scores often depend on socio-economic background of the student so scores are not as good in the city and points east and south. Your child can get a good education in any school in this county, though.

It should be mentioned that Carter Middle is about falling apart, though. They were going to build a new school or refurbish it but the contractor backed out at the last minute, so they are back to the drawing board for that.

Everything I looked so far seems to be a nice area and it appears to be 15 minutes to downtown K'ville. Schools appears to be decent eventhough the report was OK, not excellent like Farragut. Is Carter considered a good and safe area to live....would houses have a reasonable appreciation.....PLEASE.....help me with comments. By the way, I'm planning a weekend trip to the area end of April....and I currently live in a suburb south of Indianapolis. Thanks. By the way, I'm more and more enjoying the possibility of moving to East TN.
Are you bothered by living in a poor part of town? If not East Knoxville is for you. Bring some bars for the windows.
Things get alot better as you move west.

Hi how you doing? I didn't know Carter & Strawberry plains were all in one? Learned something new today. We are still planning on moving the middle of next year. Will probably end up in your area or Fountain city. The plan is to live in an RV until we decide where we like the best. So now I'm researching RV parks!!

Good luck with your move. Yes Carter area comes under Strawberry Plains.Part of Strawberry Plains is Knox County and the other is Jefferson County. I know there is a rough area of East Knoxville but that is not Carter area. It's a great idea to come inyour RV and then you can look around to see where you want to live.

Oh wow. Carter isn't even close to being the "East Knoxville" you're thinking of. Better stay on guard from the roving bands of suburban families and farmers riding their tractors. Furthermore, if by "better" you mean more stripmalls and McMansions, then yes, west is the way to go, but I grew up there and things got a lot better for me when I moved north.
