Aldi`s stores here tend to be small compared to most of the other grocery chains. Mostly house brand or off brand items, a locking system on their shopping carts, requires like a quarter in a slot deposit to get one loose? Quarter returned when you bring it back.
As I recall they don`t take checks? and they were the only grocery chain in this area that didn`t have electric shopping carts for disabled people to use. I didn`t see that much of an advantage to shopping there.
Just in case they are new to your area and haven`t seen one.

We were fortunate enough for an Aldi's to open in Knoxville in the past year. http://www.city-data.com/forum/knoxv...242-aldis.html

I didn't see what the big deal was over Aldi's either. I visited the one in Powell once after it opened and wasn't really impressed. It just looked like the typical "off brand" grocery stores that have been in small rural towns in the area for years (like Save-a-Lot and United Grocery Outlet-UGO). Maybe newer and a bit cleaner, but same concept. I'll buy some basic items at these types of stores, but I really don't trust a lot of the no-name/off brand stuff that these places carry. I just don't think they are as good as the generic store brands at the bigger name grocery stores and Wal Mart.
But I'm all for more stores and more choices, and I'm happy to see someone expanding and bringing more jobs to the area.

BRH, I tend to agree, it`s always nice to have choices on places to shop. The nearest city to me Medina Ohio went thru some changes 15 or so years ago when the first big box store opened 24/7.
Smaller merchants closed, they just couldn`t compete, even though some carried specialty items not found in the big box stores. Even more changes on the way though now, We have had a Wal-Mart almost right across the street from the Super K-mart for about 12 years now, they just turned it into a Super Wal-Mart 24/7 it will be interesting to see which survives? More choices gone?
Just hard for a city of 25,000 or so to support too many stores.

Aldi doesn't have the greatest selection, but I used to get frozen tuna steaks there that were like 2.99 a lb and great!
