Relocating...need information on the Northern side of Knoxville, please
My husband & I with our 20 mth old daughter are hoping to relocate to Knoxville as soon as a job within his company opens there. My family lives in Crossville, TN and we want to be closer to family now that we have a child. Oddly enough I was actually born in Knoxville when my dad was at UT for law.
We've been looking at Knoxville maps and reading people's take on the city. So far the only thing that kinda makes us concerned is the crime ratio.
We are looking at moving to the north side of Knoxville but there are so many different areas on the map and would like some help on pinning down a good area. We want a family friendly community obviously, low crime area, pet friendly because for awhile we will be renters but close to area events.
Also we can't find anyone that agrees on the snowfall in Knoxville. We like snow but in moderation obviously, can anyone tell us about the winter months in Knoxville and the areas that tend to get the most snow.
Thank you for any information!!!

When you say "northside" how far out do you want to be? Close in as in the historical 4th & Gill neighborhood. Slightly north of the bypass like Fountain City or in a newer development such as in Powell. That will help narrow it down.

North is great, and our crime is not that bad, and mostly in same improverished areas. Ft. city is great, and snow is not a problem here, as we only get a good dusting most of the time, and in fact usually dont have enough even for our kids to really enjoy. If your wanting closer to Crossville, then west knox will put you about an hour away, as we have my wifes parents, living in Fairfield Glade. They tease and leave at say 11 oclock, and get here at same time. Good luck, and welcome back to Knoxville.

Hmmm....
Thank you both for the answers, as as far as the "Tsimmu", we are wanting an area with some hills & a little bit of snow, more than just a dusting.
As far as "oldmanbob", Crossville is close enough to Knoxville. We are just trying to find a lil piece of paradise in the midst of Knoxville, we heard East is not so nice and West is busy, my Dad suggested Maryville but there seems to be a bit pricey. There are so many areas on the North side we just want an idea of where to focus on.
Thank you both!!!

East Knox has Magnolia Ave. and because of that area, all of East Knox gets the bad rep. I live in East Town and my area is very nice off Washington Pike.

Good to know "Pam & Bill".
Does anyone know anything Kingston Pointe Apartments? Reason I ask is so far they are the only ones that allow pets. What is that area like?

Kingston Pointe is in Bearden, by looking at Google. I don't know what they are like but there are lots of apartment complexes that allow pets. Knoxville only gets a dusting, even during this cold and snowier past winter. Just a dusting. And I live in Fountain City, which is pretty hilly.
You'll have to go to Kentucky or West Virginia for that.

Thank you "hiknapster" I ran across the Kingston Pointe apartments via a link for a Knoxville apartments and that was the only one that came up as a pet friendly. We hope to find a good house rental but always like to have a back up via a apartment if need be.
I don't care if there is lil snow in Knoxville, a dusting to a couple of inches is better than nothing! I am tired of all the snowfall we get here in Billings, MT.
I've heard Fountain City mentioned a few times as a good place to make roots. Anyone of know of any links for rental housing/apartments {pet friendly} in that area?

The Knox County animal shelter has a list of pet-friendly apartments.
Pet Policies in Knoxville Apartment Complexes
In the Fountain City area you'll find a lot of duplexes and small buildings that allow pets but don't advertise.
