Jeff City is considerably larger than Maynardville.

Your right Wiesgarber, pop for Jefferson City is shown on City-data, in 2,000 at 8099 and Maynardville at 1886. To drive thru, Maynardville looks to be larger, in the downtown area, but I could be wrong. Sorry

Originally we were interested in Union County but now we are thinking about Jefferson City. I do not see alot of information posted about Jefferson County.
Could someone help with the pros and cons for the area?
My husband is a retired-disabled marine and has the oppurtunity to go back to school for a degree and I am an escrow officer for a title company. We are looking for a nice country home to rent before trying to buy. We have two boys (9 and 13). We are obviously interested in good schools, we really just want a better life for our children. Thanks for any input.

Hi Heathdawn,
When I first moved to TN from S.E.FL, we landed in Jefferson County, now this was back in 1997, we stayed until 1999 when we moved to Greene County. Why? Because I had my oldest in Jefferson County school, not very good in my opinion. (again, this was several years ago, I have no personal current info) There was also an attitude about "outsiders", not really bad or anything, they just never let us forget we weren't from round there.
The drive to Morristown to get much of anything besides the very basics became a pain in the rear.

Yep. My best friend has lived there for many years. She's from Ohio but her husband is a native. She couldn't even sell Avon without having to explain over and over who her husband is. She's never made any real friends there.
And she is far away from everything. She drives about 40 minutes, one way, just to get to work.

Wow, that does not sound very positive. My husband and I are looking for good schools and nice southern friendly hospitality. We know we are outsiders but do not want to stay that way. Is there another area that may be better for our family, my boys are going to start 4th and 8th grades. Thanks for all the help.

We did consider Maryville, but we currently live in Central Florida and saw how built up it became. Maryville seems very popular. We were thinking of a country setting within 30 minutes from Knoxville. Is there much land to purchase in Maryville, it seems pretty built up already? The schools sound very good. Thanks for the input.

That's funny! That's exactly what we thought when we drove through Maryville, four years ago. Very pretty town, but overpriced and looked like the new "IT" place. We ran as fast as we could away from it.
We live in Knoxville. LOVE it, and I'm a country girl. Rent first and see what you will like.
We lived in north Knox County when we first moved here. It was 12 minutes to the city and it was rural. Alas, we did not care for it! Who knew?
You can also go east and it is rural in 10 minutes. But rent first and search for your perfect spot.
