Jefferson City, TN or somewhere else?
Hi everyone. I hate to admit it but we are another FL family planning to move to East Tennessee. We have actually been planning it for two years now and finally this July we are moving up no matter what. We have stayed at several different campsites to get the feel of the area. Originally we were interested in Union County but now we are thinking about Jefferson City. I do not see alot of information posted about Jefferson County.
Could someone help with the pros and cons for the area?
My husband is a retired-disabled marine and has the oppurtunity to go back to school for a degree and I am an escrow officer for a title company. We are looking for a nice country home to rent before trying to buy. We have two boys (9 and 13). We are obviously interested in good schools, we really just want a better life for our children. Thanks for any input.

I'm a graduate of Carson-Newman, so I loved in Jefferson City while a student. It's a small town that centers around the college. There is a Wal-Mart, fast food places, and churches. Knoxville and Morristown are easy drives to shop and eat. I enjoyed it there. It would be a good place to raise a family.

Hey Heathdawn, congrats on your locating in our area. Jefferson City, is a somewhat smaller town, then even Maynardville, but is a neat country setting your would like. Its only some 20 minutes into Morristown, and about 35 minutes into Knoxville. In the county, the next city over is Dandridge and lots of folks like that side of the county, and lots of choices for the type setting you described. The Schools are good, and as you get into the High School, they are tops in all sports, and always use to be in the hunt for Football, and they have a very competitive swim team, that usually is tops in there division. I know a princapal in the middle school, and they are highly reccommended. Good luck, and if you like the lake activities, you have Douglas on one side, and also Cherokee, both great for fishing and boating fun.

Jefferson county as a whole is a wonderful rural area to raise a family and we have some Floridians already here- my new next door neighbors are from Florida :-)
We have the following areas, if you'd like to check into them further:
White Pine
Jefferson City
Dandridge
New Market
The nearby colleges without going into Knoxville consist of Carson Newman *in* Jefferson City and Walter's State Community College, just outside White Pine in Morristown.
As mentioned before, there are several spots in Jefferson County to gain access to the lake and the schools are wonderful. Good luck and feel free to dm me if you have any questions.

Thank you so much for all your important information. Of the many trips we have taken to TN the hospitality is so strong and again I can see it here with the posts. We can not wait to become a part of the community.

Not much of a response, maybe this is why I do not see much info on the site about the area. Please help people, thanks.

You've received three excellent responses to your original post. What additional information do you need?

I was just hoping for a little more info on the schools, employment and crime. I did not mean to seem ungrateful for the info I did receive. Thanks.
