Default ..more on Maryville

Hi...I stumbled across your forum while looking for housing and job opportunities in the Maryville area. I'm hoping some of you can offer additional info to help make the process a lil less stressful...thanks in advance.
My situation is not so uncommon.. hurdled 50 and starting over, w/ next to nothing...the youngest of my herd just graduated HS & will be playing football for Maryville College this fall. I'd like to find a 2 bdrm apt close by, for myself and maybe the boy, depending on how the dorm thing pans out. I've done the normal searches, but not knowing the area, it feels like a shot in the dark.
I'll most likely have to leave my car behind, as it's older and more tired than I am. I'll need to reistablish credit and find work while rebuilding my life.
So, here's my questions...
Does Maryville offer public transportation, what newspaper(s) offer the best classifieds, whats the chances I can find housing that will include the utilities (and still get that awesome view of the mts), & whats the job market like?
That should cover it for now...thanks again for any views you'd like to share~

There may be some sort of bus service in Maryville, but to be honest, the entire Knoxville area is built around car culture. I'd recommend anyone having one, minus a college student or some other special situation, like living in downtown Knoxville or downtown Maryville or maybe even Fountain City in Knox Co.

Craigslist, Knoxville News-Sentinel, Maryville Daily Times? What are you looking for, housing and a job I guess?

Housing w/utilities included in the rent seems to be a rare thing, but you may be able to find a place geared towards students in Maryville that offers that. It's certainly not out of the question, but again, rare, it seems.

Not sure about the job market.

Your son needs to live on his own freshman year, imo, if you can afford it. That's a big year of growth.

Avoid the apartments in Alcoa (which is just north of Maryville) behind the Flea Market. Those are the only ones in Blount I've ever heard being really, really bad/unsafe. Other than that, you should be fine, but don't be counting on mtn views. Those are mainly no the east side of Blount Co, where there are not that many apartment complexes.

I live in Maryville, and I could be wrong, but don't believe there is a public bus system. Most people travel by car here.

Newspapers: The Knox News Sentinel has more ads than the Maryville Daily Times, but here are links to both:

knoxnews.com : Knoxville, Tennessee, News, Business, Homes, Jobs, Cars & Information You can post your resume here after signing up for free

The (Maryville, Tennessee) Daily Times : Your source for news and info in the Blount County area. Celebrating serving Blount County for 125 Years.

The job market here is depressed, as it it everywhere. Probably not as bad as some areas, but still not good.

And, there are apartment complexes with somewhat of a view, but I'm just not familiar with apartments here so I can't make recommendations.

We love Maryville. Will have lived here 3 years this August, and have never regretted the move.

Default Moving to Maryville

Hi, if your son/daughter is going to Maryville College you might want to look for an apartment around Lamar Alexander Pkwy. I know there's some apartments near Blount Hospital which is pretty close to the college. I don't think the job market is great but you should be able to find something....maybe part time to start? You might try the hospital or the airport. The parks department? Anything in transportation or construction or maintenance. I don't think there's much in the way of public transportation so you'll need some sort of wheels. As far as a view is concerned, are you speaking of a mountain view? That might be hard to find but I've lived here for two years and this whole state is a view in my estimation Every turn of the road is more beautiful than the last. Most people are warm and friendly. Good luck
