For me personally there are only two reasons I did not choose Knoxville to live, and they are true personal preference things.
1. the amount of people, I prefer to live in a less populated area.
2. traffic, see #1.

True, but...
For a city of its size, it does not feel like a city. The traffic is nothing compared to Boston, Orlando, and other cities, not to mention the really high traffic cities.
I-40 and I-75, two MAJOR thoroughfares go right through the city, yet traffic flows surprisingly well. In fact, when we had to shutdown I-40 and divert traffic through I-640 for more than a year, people were really concerned, including myself. Instead, it went so well that some people were left wondering if they should even bother to reopen I-40!
Sorry, I looked in the Tri-Cities area, first. Not enough jobs, among other things.
Alright. I'll shut up now.

How bad the air pollution is here plus how bad our allergies are and can "act up" at any given time. We just got back from Hawaii and we had no problems at all. Of course Hawaii has very little air pollution but it's like that at any beach we go to.. no problems. I think it's because we set in a "bowl" and nothing gets swept out

That's true. It's been a little better this year, because it has finally been raining. The past few summers were awful.

The traffic here is nothing compared to anywhere else in the country. Like hiknapster said... try driving through Boston or Orlando sometime, or downtown Atlanta and Miami at rush-hour... and LA, forget about it! Knoxville has no traffic that we can find. The road system was well planned and it's a breeze to get around to all points at any time of the day... a very smart move considering the expanding population that is underway.
...and what's this talk about allergies and air pollution? We haven't had any trouble while in Knoxville, it's non-existent here compared to most places we've been.... seems just like cool clean air to us.

Well, I do just fine without it, but I dislike that there isn't a Trader Joe's here. I also wish that there would be a law that 18 wheel trucks have to use 640 permanently.

and these would be likes or dislikes? When my kids were really young, I was GLAD to not live close to the beach--it was such a pain taking them there....4 kids=never ending sand....kind of like when you find needles from the Christmas tree in July--6 mos after the tree went to tree heaven. Months after the trip to the beach sand was still laying around somewhere. I always felt like it was smirking at me--something like, ha ha--you didn't get me......
is the weather good, bad or ugly in your opinion?
SmokeyMtnGal-I got hit by an 18 wheeler in 2003--I would kind of like to see EVERYTHING shipped by rail--personally. It took me a long time to not freak-out when a truck, bus, or big motorhome was beside me on the road--and if they were on both sides of me or it was truck on one side, concrete barrier on the other side..well I was in the early stages of a heart attack.

Well, I was following the flow of the thread, so those would be my personal dislikes. I have plenty of likes to balance them out.
The weather is a very subjective thing. Many people either like or have made peace with Knoxville's weather, but I find it disagreeable. While there used to be four seasons, there are now only three-- hot, hotter and cold. My parents have said that the past three years here have been the worst weather years they can remember. Transplants from the Northeast, the Midwest and Florida generally find the weather to their liking; people from the West Coast, not so much. But, again, it's all personal preference. To each his own.
