If they have picked Maryville they have a good community and safe place for their family and you can feel better. We've only lived here for a short time but are truly happy we have come. We hear that the schools are among the best in the state (the county schools are pretty good too). People are friendly, helpful and most are quite polite. If I had young children I'd be happy to bring them up here.

I am so sad by this and all in the same feeling, scared to death to let them go (of course I know I have no choice). So I was just checking out this site and I have seen alot of plus things about your town of Maryville. My husband and I whom live in central Florida, have helped raise our grandaughter who just turned three in june and we are just sick and heartbroken about the news. I guess if we know it is a wonderful and safe place for a family to grow and be raised, then this makes me feel a bit better. Thanks for your input on this as I am skimming these comments by you all. I am originally from Indiana but moved down to Florida 17 years ago and she is our only grandbaby. My husband is having as much as a hard time "letting go" as I am. Bless you all and let me know any pros and cons you can think of.
They are a young soon to be married couple of mid 20's that of course have a 3 year old little very active yet smart little girl. (ok my opinion but true~) ;o) they both work in great jobs. He on computers, my daughter is in management position at an elite southern furniture store. Both are hard workers. Need to know about day care etc... ???? Trustworthy people ...... will be buying a home eventually would like in a safe family community. (remember I'm Grandma) and just want their happiness, but I DO want to be able to sleep at night and know my Grandaughter is safe.
I do like Florida, but seriously in my heart I know it is the best thing for them and do want them to get out of here and find a nice family city/town to settle down in. So much is always going on down here anymore, child abductions, rapes, murders, ......sad... I wish I had been smarter 17 years ago and check the internet before I moved and brought my own children down here. But it just seems things have gotten even more dangerous for our children down here in the last few years or maybe I just see it all now having a grandaughter as I worked all the time but was blessed by having my mother and father watch mine while i was working?!?!
Thank you all and hopefully you will welcome my little grandaughter and her Mommy and Daddy to be with loving open arms when they come to start their new fresh start and beginning of their future for all three of them.
Thanks again.
:O) any suggestions or comments welcome.

I just read your post regarding Maryville, we have been here two yrs and are retired - my son moved his family to Maryville after seeing our home and the area. He has three teenagers and lived in Ft. Lauderdale, his whole married life. He is now 47, he loves the area, the kids are very happy here and have made many friends. He also was worried about bringing up his kids in Florida. Yrs ago when we married in 1961, Florida was a wonderful place to bring up your family. I think your daughter and her family will be very happy here in Maryville, We lived in the country close too Maryville, called Greenback, a subdivision where the children can walked around played and be safe. I too missed my other grandchild in Miami, and my youngest son and his fiancee will be getting married and starting a family too. I know how you feel not being there but, we now have an airlines from Ft. Lauderdale, two hr trip and your here in Maryville. So I make that flight which is cheaper than the other airlines. Maybe in time you will be able to moved here too. hope this helps. DM me if you need the airlines name.

Tyster, there are jobs here in Maryville. I am wondering where you have been looking for a job? What are your tactics? Where are you currently residing? What's wrong with going into Knoxville? Would you consider driving to other areas near Maryville? You'll need to give us more info to be able to help you.

hey LYoda, I'm also from IL, nice to know someone from IL has moved to Maryville. My husband and I just visited Knoxville and ventured in to Maryville and we loved it there. We're considering moving there someday too, hopefully not too long from now. We live the small town feel, and traffic in Maryville is definitely far from the crazies in Crook county (oh, i mean to say Cook ;-) county).
I'd love to read more about your experience so far in Maryville.

My husband is from Chicago. We've lived in Knoxville for three years and love it. Bear in mind, though, that he also lived in Florida for 25 years.

Hi Postman28,
Since you last wrote, are you happily settled into Maryville and working at the Kingston PO? Your thread caught my attention as my husband also works at the P.O. and since we have visited Maryville and loved it, he's planning on a transfer should we make our move into Maryville. Care to share your experience on your transfer and your outlook on working at Kingston... if you're already settled there. Thanks!

SMG, thank you so much for offering your help. My husband and I are planning another trip to Maryville in March 2009 just to check out the area again. Our first trip there was 2 weeks ago, and we love the small town feel with modern day conveniences. We're so impressed with the huge medical facility in Blount County, some Baptist Hospital I think, and the view of the smokies all around is just amazing! I'm a temperate weather kinda girl, so mild winters suit me just fine.
So, what do most people do as a hobby or past time in Maryville aside from hiking the mountains and trails? Do Arts/Crafts such as scrapbooking, quilting, painting, scultpuring, pottery, stained glass, etc have a huge following in Maryville or Knoxville?
