Thanks, I also make (so I've been told) great bbq since there isn't any here I have had to learn it in self defense! I jsut did a search on houses and compared to here they are pretty reasonable. At least we are familiar with the south, my family loves it there, don't know why we moved away in the first place. We have come to love semi rural mountain living on decent size lots. We are currently on 2 wooded acres at the base of columbia mountain range with about 20 other lots and in the county not the city. Is this type of thing available there? As for tornados, we lived north of Atlanta and had a tornado jump our subdivision and hit a mile away and in NC were treated to hurricanes and tornado warnings all summer long so we are a little leary but I figured being close to the smokies should lower the risk. My wife is a cafateria worker and school bus driver so work for her is a consideration, anyone know how the district is? Also, my son wants to go to school for culinary arts and I am wondering if this is availavble there.

Thanks for the info y'all, I guess a trip is in our future! Time to list this pig we are in now!!!!!

JMT thanks for your time you are a great help.How far in Maryville from down town Knoxville? Is Maryville an area of prosperity? I have met people that relocated to Maryville from New Orleans nine years ago and they love it there.

Maryville is about 15 miles south of downtown Knoxville.

I wouldn't consider Maryville to be a poor place. There is definitely some money down there. But like most places, it has wealthy neighborhoods and some that are less so.

I live and work in Maryville. The traffic is not bad, the weather is great, jobs are good, and the beauty of viewing the mountains when you drive makes this place a 100+.

Hi Judith, I am looking for a job and housing in Maryville, are u originally from there? I didn't know it was going to be this hard long distance! I will be renting as soon as I can get work there. Do u know of any cheap apartments that are clean? I can't do anything over $425 for a studio. I will also be looking for a job doing anything, I don't have a profession I have to stick to.

Default Cannot wait to be a Maryville Citizen!

Hi Ya'll from High priced,High taxed,high traffic,highly rude,congested South Florida(Boynton Beach) I bought a house in Livingston,Tn 1 and 1 half year ago which is by Cookeville,and instantly fell in love with the kindness and sincerity of most of the people.Being a Christian made it even more appealing but my overall sense is that most people in Tenn. accept you as you are regardless of religion,race,etc.My wife thought it was a little to rural in Livingston(I loved it)But when we went through Maryville we loved it.My son is a good football player in the youth leauges down here and I've heard Maryville and other schools are good for sports and academics as well.We are selling our place in Livingston to hope to move to Maryville or another city that is between Maryville and Kingston,Tn where I am anxiously awaiting (God willing) my transfer to the Kingston Post Office within the coming months.Does anybody up there know anything or have been by the Kingston P.O. and how big it is,and how long it would take me to commute from the outside limits of Western Maryville.I would probably rent first,any places 3/2 up to $900 monthly anybody with suggestions or leads.Or any opinions about Lenoir City,Friendsville,Farragut,Louisville or other cities closer to Kingston if it is too far a commute and also opinions about their school/sports programs of any of the friendly and Hospitable people of eastern Tennessee would be greatfully appreciated.God Bless Tennessee!!!!

Yes, we live in rural Maryville. Which basically means we live in Blount County with a Maryville mailing address. We live about 15 minutes south of the city, and it is definitely rural, but in a small sub-division type area (about 18-20 homes on 1/2 acre to 4 acre lots).

I drive to the west side of Knoxville, and it takes about 48 minutes. I didn't think I wanted that long of a drive, but it's amazing how quickly the time passes when you drive with the most beautiful mountain views.

My hubby laughed when we were looking for a home. I went from saying I had to be no more than 30 minutes drive from work to saying that I had to be less than an hour, after seeing what being out in the 'country' could be like.

I always liked Lenoir City when I lived down there. It wouldn't be too bad of a drive to Kingston. Friendsville is nice too, but a bit more of a drive. I wasn't really in Louisville too much, but I know you have pretty direct access to the freeway via Topside Road. (You'd probably be more interested in Lenoir City or Friendsville.) Farragut is rather pricey, but nice - and it wouldn't be such a bad drive to work.

I'd say from West Maryville area (like around Foothills Mall area), you're probably talking close to an hour drive. Friendsville, maybe 45 minutes. Lenoir City, about 25 minutes.

Keep in mind if you want a view, or relatively "quick" access to the mountains, places like Farragut, Friendsville and Lenoir City aren't going to give you that.
