Barry,

I hope your trip goes well, and you are led to the place you end up loving. While you are here, don't forget to take at least a quick trip to the Smokies.

Give us some hints about what you guys like, maybe we can make some suggestions.

Hi Barry

I suppose it kinda depends on what you're looking for. How much can you afford? Do you want to be close to the mountains? Do you want to avoid traffic? Will you be working, and if so, do you want to be close to work? Do you need good schools? I can think of lots of great places, but I kinda need a wee bit more info before I can narrow it down.

Oh yeah, BBQ..... you could try Buddy's ...or... Sonny's.

Default Maryville TN

Barry-I saw your post about Maryville. Did you make the trip? How did you like it? We, too, are thinking of Maryville for relocation. We will be relocating from San Diego, CA and have three children. They will be 18, 16 and 7. So, education is important. Also, we are bible-based Christians, so church and values are paramount. We are looking for a town that is friendly, safe, and slower paced. My husband owns a computer software company, so he will work from home or lease an office in town. Commute isn't a factor there. Any insight you could provide is greatly appreciated!

Barry, all kinds of good restaurants around here. Depends on which town you are looking to eat in. Some of our favorites are at Turkey Creek area of Farragut (Mimi's and others there), and in Maryville, we love to eat at Aubreys, Sullivans, and Panchos.

For a quick meal, bbq, Buddy's is a good fast food place.

Default It's All Very Confusing

Looking for some suggestions.

We are both mid 50's no kids, only pets, looking to relocate out of Florida.

We both will need to work, for a few more years anyway.

We do not want to live in a subdivision, we prefer the peace and quiet of the country with the neighbors further apart!

We have been searching on realtor.com and saw a property in the Maryville listings of Deer Run.

How does one know what areas to avoid and what areas what suit our needs?

We aren't fussy with jobs, both are ready for a change.

We would even be interested in a fixer upper as we are both very handy.

Any suggestions? How does Greeneville TN compare to Maryville TN area?
Susan

Susan,

I haven't been in Deer Run, it's a gated community about 10 minutes from where we live. It's more woodsy and rural, and just down below Chilhowee Mtn.

It would be about 10 - 15 minutes from downtown Maryville.

In east TN I've found that you really have to go see the home you are interested in, and check out the neighborhoods that way. There were houses we passed on when we saw the neighborhoods. Not so much that they were bad neighborhoods, but they were not kept up, seemed on the way down instead of on the way up.

I recently traveled to East TN, and we stayed in Alcoa, and toured Maryville. I did not encounter heavy traffic at all...Traffic is pretty smooth...can't compare it on how it use to be, but from what I suffer everyday here in Miami, it is tolerable! Maryville has lovely neighborhoods and homes. Schools are great, and I consider it to be the perfect place to raise a family or to retire. I would love to live there, however; there are not a lot of job opportunities. Homes prices vary a lot depending on where you want to live, however; they are pretty affordable. It is really a nice area! I hope to be able to live there someday! (I would have to commute to work eveyday to Knoxville, though)

I am a little late to this thread but I wanted to respond. I an an east TN native (born and bred in the Tri Cities) and have lived in West Knoxville (Farragut) as well as Texas and Pittsburgh PA and have called Maryville home for 4 years now. If I can help anyone or answer any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards.
