Side of Knoxville closest to Seymour
I would like to get some information about the side of Knoxville closest to Seymour.
We are considering moving to the Smoky Mountains, and I have read good things about Seymour. It seems like it is centrally located between Pigeon Forge/Sevierville where my husband will be seeking employment in one of the dinner shows and Knoxville that has plenty of culture and activities to keep everyone busy.
Is the side of Knoxville closest to Seymour a safe part of town? Is that considered South Knoxville?
How far is Seymour from downtown Knoxville?
Thanks for any information you can give!

the closest to Seymour is indeed South Knoxville, centered around the Chapman Highway. This route runs into downtown Knoxville and turns into Henley Street. South Knoxville is probably the least commercially developed, most affordable (housing-wise) part of Knoxville. I believe it will play a central part in the continuing development of Knoxville as the area grows, especially (and first) the South Waterfront area and then other areas. It's also home to Ijams Nature Center, which is superb.
I've only driven Seymour to Knoxville (or rather, Knoxville to Seymour) a couple times but I'd estimate it's twenty minutes or so. Someone can correct if that's not right.

Thanks for the information. I hope others will reply about how safe the south side of Knoxville is.
Any idea where the closest Target is to that part of town?

Haha, that's the biggest drawback. (I can hear JMT now!) There is no Target in South Knoxville.
The closest one is in North Knoxville, 4700 New Harvest Lane, right off 640. The next closest I guess is Ray Mears, near the West Town Mall. There's also one in NW on the Clinton Highway.

Seymour is a beautiful place to live. Nice mountain views and lots of out door activities. Not much for restaurants but central to Gatlinburg, Maryville and Knoxville.

And just how close (looking at the glass half full ) are these Targets to South Knoxville? I can do some research to find out, but I thought I would ask in case anyone knows off the top of their head.
Thanks!
*Also, please, somebody. Is the south side of Knoxville a safe area of town?

Hm, that I do not know. I've never driven specifically from across the river to North Knoxville. Depending on where you were in South, getting on 640 (or going up Broadway or whatever), I'd guess it's 20 minutes or so.
Ray Mears Target would be about the same, coming into downtown then onto Cumberland then 40 (or Kingston...)
South Knoxville is one of the most safe areas, along with parts of West Knox. Lots of locals, long-time inhabitants. It feels a bit more like Knoxville circa 1970.

Beyond the northern part of South Knox near the river, it's rather country, I'll add. You can go from a pretty rural area, by city standards, to downtown in 10 minutes, and I always thought that was unique.

Thank you for the answer to my safety question. Thanks to everyone else too for the great answers to my question. We are coming to visit the Smokies again right after the 4th of July, and we look forward to exploring Seymour, South Knoxville, and downtown Knoxville.
