Default Race Relations in Knoxville?

Although we are not planning to move to Knoxville city limits, I am planning to spend a good bit of time there for culture and shopping.

How are race relations in Knoxville?

We are in an area now (that I grew up in) where EVERYTHING and EVERY issue is about race whether it is hiring a school superintendent or where to build a new store coming to town.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The city is known as the birthplace of Civil Rights AND the Cradle of the Confederacy. Hard for those two things to get along.

Are things better than that in Knoxville?

Thanks for the help.

Are things better? That is up to an individual perspective my friend. Some will say yes, some will say no.

Well I don't think this is true for Knoxville:

"We are in an area now (that I grew up in) where EVERYTHING and EVERY issue is about race whether it is hiring a school superintendent or where to build a new store coming to town."

Unfortunately there are some racist individuals but I don't see it as pervasive. The biggest official problem is the attitude of some of the police officers towards minorities. Now that I think about it, they can be pretty rude to low income white people, too. While some of the officers need public relations & race relations training, most are exemplary.

Well I am glad to hear that things are better there than here.

When watching the news here most nights or reading the newspaper, I just want to yell, "Why can't we just all get along?!?"

Thanks for the information.
