Default What area in Knoxville is safe and has good schools

Can someone from Knoxville tell me what is the safest area to raise a family and that has good schools. My husband and I have looked at houses online and can not figure out what is the best area for low crime. Thank you!!

Congrats, most our areas, with exception to downtown and some east parts, are all safe, especially if your in subd . You can go to kgis.org and check out the school rankings. Pricing will help in suggesting where to look, and we have to be careful, as most families, always perfer the school system where they live.

We are still deciding if we want to move, we have been researching for almost 2 years now. The areas that we are thinking about is Knoxville and tri-cities but not sure what one yet since we have not visted the tri-cities yet but plan to as soon as possible. I heard that inner west or north Knoxville is safe and the schools are good is this true? I hope this is not a stuip question but we looked at houses online in Knoxville, how do you now what ones are in west, north, south, east because some of them do not say, so it is a little confusing to us. Also, yes crime and schools are a must our kids are the most important thing, we are scared the schools will not be good for them. Our price range is 175,000 - 215,000 3-4 bedroom and 2 baths. So over all we are scared to move away from a place that we have know all our lives and the schools are great but we would like a change and to have four season.

I agree with Bob, most areas are safe. However, I don't think that being in a subdivision makes you any safer. There is crime there, too, no matter where you are in this country.

I don't care for Lonsdale or anything south of Magnolia. Anything within the I-640 beltway can be sketchy. Some neighborhoods are nice and some not-so-nice, which is hard when you are looking online. South Knoxville, close to the river has issues in some neighborhoods and I don't care for the schools.

I live in the Fountain City area. That's north of I-640. Also, west Knoxville, as long as it is past the Lonsdale/Mechanicsville area, is good.

Here's what I did when we lived in Florida: I looked at the property online and then took mapquest, put the address in and checked out the location. Tedious, but it works.

I love Knoxville. We've been here four years and it is the best move I have ever made. We're from Fort Myers, where the schools are terrible. We have a nine-year-old girl and moving from there was the smartest thing we ever did. The people are great. The weather is beautiful.

Will you be looking for jobs?

No, I am a stay at home mom and my husband works for Walgreens so he can get a transfered to anywere he wants. We live in Seminole Florida and the area is nice and we feel very safe. The schools here are 9-10 wich is excellent. The reason way we would like to move is to have four season and to try something different because we have lived here all our lives. Also, we always think about hurricanes and our insance going up. Most of our family lives here so it is very hard but we are trying to make a wise choice in moving to a safe place with good schools since we do have that were we live. Thank you for all the information if you think of anything else please let me know because the more I know the better I will feel (I hope lol).

You should come and visit! It's wonderful here. It's suppose to be a big city, but it seems more like a very large town!

Your pricing, will allow you many choices, and as Hiknapster said, you just need to visit, and several sites, will help, with knowing the locations. We do enjoy the 4 seasons, and many of our school systems, rank at 10.

Thank you, we did visit last year around Maryville area and liked it but did not spend much time in Knoxville itself so it is nice to here from people that live there and feel safe. oldmanbob that makes me feel better that many schools rank 10 thats great. We are talking about taking another trip in the Knoxville area as soon as we can. We looked at houses online in fountain city and they are nice for our price range so thank you to hiknapster for that one. We do not want to live in a big city so it is good that it feels like a large town. We will see what the future holds Moderator cut: cut
Thank you again for your time

Farragut is probably the best combination of good schools and low crime.
