And if I am not crazy, if you went on Realtor.com, what would I look for, and is it a safe area? I know Knoxville is city, but she said there are some of the area thats not city . West Knoxville, is suburban. The closer you get to Pellissippi Parkway the less populated it is (so far). Didn't go to any other parts of Knoxville.

The Knoxville Zoo is in East Knoxville. The area immediately surrounding the zoo isn't the safest part of town, but it's nothing like areas of Memphis or Atlanta. You can go our Rutledge Pike away from the zoo and be in the country in just a few minutes.
Are you looking for a house in the city or out in the country? Are you looking for land? What's the price range?
I lived in rural East Knox County for 3 years and absolutely loved it. I would highly recommend it if you're wanting country living but still be within 20 minutes or so of downtown.

We wanted to live not in a "city" but then not in the middle of nowhere either, we have a 3yr old grandaughter living with us, so I take her into consideration. We were looking for a home like 3 bdrms, even a fixxer -upper. My husband likes Maryville area, but He would like to spend under like $ 90,000
I told him for that area its not too realistic,I try to keep optimistic
I saw knoxville was cheap, but I guess thats the city and a not real safe area huh? I am getting bummed out We will be visiting in July, so I will talk to a realtor. My husband thinks I am a miracle worker and can find something this summer lol . I found my current home through a realtor a former boss knew and it was a forclosure.....So he thinks I can make a miracle
happen.I thought someone in another post said East knox wasnt safe? Thank you JMT , you always see to help!

I sure hope you can find something for less than $90k, but that might be a stretch. East Knoxville is the area people say isn't safe, but East Knox County is very safe. When I lived out in East Knox County my neighbor worked for the E-911 office, and he said in the 7 years he'd been there they never had a single call from our area of East Knox County (Thorn Grove community). And yet you can hop on I-40 and be in downtown in less than 20 minutes.
But if you want to live in a town for less than $90k but still be close to Knoxville, how about Kingston? You'd be only about 15 minutes from the shopping mecca of West Knox / Farragut (Turkey Creek, specifically) but Kingston is a small town (about 5,000) right on a lake. It's got very reasonable housing costs, the people are friendly, the schools are good, and it's really a beautiful area.
And thank you for the compliment! I wish you the best of luck. I'm tickled to help.

Hey Phyllis, I'm glad to help! There are others here in this forum who might have some suggestions, too.
Kingston is about 15 minutes west of West Knoxville, which would put it at about an hour from Pigeon Forge depending on the traffic.
If you want to be closer to Pigeon Forge, maybe you could try Kodak. Kodak isn't really a town (there's no downtown Kodak) but it's a rural community between Knoxville and Sevierville. There are beautiful areas of Kodak right along the French Broad River. The area of Kodak right around I-40 is getting built-up with all kinds of fast-food joints, a huge Bass Pro Shops store, and Knoxville's minor league baseball stadium. But venture a mile or two away from the interstate and you have rolling pastureland, small farms, churches, country stores, and some very beautiful scenery.

I'm following some suggestion from JMT, hicknapster, LauraC and others that posted nice comments on an area called Carter.....East Knox Co......everything I found so far seems very good about the area....I'll be there soon to see it personally and I have found a few interesting houses there....prices are reasonable. Just a suggestion even though I'm still here in the "Colts" land.

Great suggestion! I don't know why I didn't think of Carter. So Phyllis, listen to hoosier07! Carter is a nice area of rural East Knox County that you might want to consider, too.
