Default Where to stay in Gatlinburg in Dec?

My husband and I haven't been on a family vacation in many years. We were thinking of taking our daughter and her husband and our 2 teenage sons to Gatlinburg in Dec. Each person in our family is looking for something different which makes selecting a place for just a 3 day weekend almost impossible.

My husband would like to stay in a cabin on a river or near a running stream.
He loves the sound of the rolling water.

My oldest son loves to fish and thrill rides.

My youngest son loves hiking and mountain views.

My daughter loves shopping, horseback riding and Christmas lights.

I just want to be close to the action without having to hear it all.

Any suggestions on where to stay?

Hello,
We stayed at the Smoky Shadows on 441(by red light 10) you can get a room with a hot tub in the room and balcony right on the running stream. They have a heated pool too. The people there were REALLY nice. They really want to please you. We stayed there for 3 nights we enjoyed it so much. We usually try different places when we go up but we went back because it was really a nice place. I love the sound of the sream too. And it isn't too far away from Gatlinburg. While you are at Gatlinburg you have to snowtube, we had so much fun. Loved it. We went the end of Dec 2008. Enjoy and have a great trip. Be Safe.

For the amount of money you would spend on a hotel, I would rent a chalet. We have done this many times over the years. We have worked with mountainchalets.com several times they have a nice assortment of rentals and are great to work with. You can go on line and tour the chalets and map where they are, see what amenities they each offer. Things may not always be perfect on a trip, but they make it right quickly and are very pleasant about it. We have also used Alpine Chalet rentals, it was also a good experience. Hope everyone will be pleased with your efforts. A GREAT MAMA plans things like this ; )

Hi there!
We definitely recommend "BUCKBERRY LODGE" which is on Gatlinburg mountain and in the thick of it all. There's the alpine slide next door to the lodge and Ober Gatlinburg at the top (next door) for skiing, tubing, ect... THE LODGE is on the mountain with a huge rushing stream, hiking trails start at the lodge, fishing is at the river at the lodge, there's a TP with indoor lights & a BBQ pit inside that would seat about 4 families of 6 people each around it for a nice dinner outdoors!
Horseback for your daughter and shopping abound 2 minutes down the mountain and quick trips.
Enjoy! The Lodge at Buckberry Creek: Welcome
Meg
