Hmmm you may be right. I went back and read AprilFamily's original post, and maybe she does mean she found a house about a mile west of the Papermill exit. I guess I saw "we are making reservations" and assumed her question was related to "making reservations."

If she is looking at a house about a mile west of the Papermill exit, then I'll change my answer to something like this: Yes I think that's an ok area. It's just very, very busy and has a lot of traffic. (Well, for Knoxville it's a lot of traffic." I believe that's zoned for Bearden HS, and Bearden HS has an excellent reputation around here so I assume that means the other schools around there are also good.

Sorry for not replying sooner - my son's party is this afternoon and I've been busy preparing. So, you all are half-right. It is a house, but it's a house that we are thinking of just renting for the week of our stay. I guess the guy rents it out by the week - mostly for UT games and stuff.

I just didn't know anything about that area other than the ad said it was "minutes from downtown" and I remember reading here that some parts near downtown are not that safe. Thanks for all the input - I think I'll go ahead and make the reservation.

If it's out by Papermill, it's minutes from "west town." This area is considered to be more safe than, say, north Knox / Fountain City.

I don't believe a word of it, though. For sure there are rough parts, Magnolia, 4th and Gill, MLK Drive, but overall Knox is safe through and through. Just don't do anything stupid.

When you write "north Knox" I think you mean north Knoxville.

I live in north Knox County and that is very safe. I also believe Fountain City to be safe, as well.

I simply don't trust a lot of the city of Knoxville. Even some of the areas that have been touted as safe.

Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom were supposedly in a safe area, not doing anything "stupid." Yet they were carjacked by a gang, raped, tortured and murdered. There were five people involved, including a woman. I think it was a hate crime, yet the national news has not even picked this story up. I just don't understand why.

I think that there is a racial undercurrent here and it is getting ready to explode. There's a lot of internet buzz about this crime, lately, especially after the Dom Imus incident. But most people have no idea what happened.
