All spring and summer long, there are always concerts and events in the park downtown. A huge variety of other events are always available locally. Check the online Maryville Daily Times or the local chamber of commerce for more info. I'm sure you can find your classes locally as well. There is Maryville College who offers courses like these, health clubs, etc., so check it out. It's a great place to live!!

Actually, there are alot of duplexes in town that are individually owned and affordable. When my husband and I first moved here, we rented a two bedroom duplex, all bills paid for $450. The problem is, to find them you really have to come into town and drive around to get the addresses and contact info. Some of them might advertise in the Maryville Daily Times. Check the online newspaper. We found our apartment by doing the driving. It is a great place to live and I wish I could give you a simple list to find one by. You could try the online Chamber of Commerce for Maryville and contact them. They might have some kind of listing for private rentals. Good luck!

A two-bedroom duplex, all utilities for $450? Perhaps that was quite awhile ago?

Ted, thanks for the link I have talked to that apartment complex, the only problem I have with them is the smell, I was told it can get pretty bad over there, but the rent is reasonable. I guess there is a sewage plant or something over that way. There was only one rating of the place back in 2004 but I may have to just stay there until I can find something else. Doesn't seem like there is much for apartments around there......!! Also, can anyone PM the name of a really good real estate agent in Maryville? I contacted one about a house 4days ago and never got back to me. The houses are more reasonable than the rent, but I am still a little leary about doing that.
Do u like living in Maryville? I haven't heard a whole lot of bad about it, except for the traffic. I have been wanting to live there off and on for about 15 yrs now. I think it is time for me to make the escape, I sure wish I had moved there then.........Everything was alot cheaper!
Does anyone know if jobs are plentiful, seems like it in the daily times, but what do I know?

Smell?
Was the smell a paper mill???? I went to college in a small town in E Tenn. When the wind was blowing just right....woo!....you got a real whiff of something that definitely wasn't what you wanted! Oh well....I guess the experience wasn't too unpleasant - I wanna go back!

It's near a sewerage plant.
I had a friend that rented there last summer, having moved from Mississippi. There were all kinds of security issues, problems with crime. After two months, she moved out.

That's what my friends experienced, too. They were lured to that area because of the cheap rents. But then you have to stop and wonder just why the rent there is so much cheaper than anywhere else.
And the smell was outrageous!!!!!
